Apply Online - India How to Obtain a Passport Online with Images

  1. Please go to the online portal. Link for portal: link
  2. Please select “New User Registration” button to get new screen.
  3. Please complete the page prompt and click “Register” tab to register.
  4. Come back to home page. Select “Existing User Login” button.
  5. In the given page please login with login ID and select “Login” button.
  6. After login, please select “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” option.
  7. Now you can find two ways of applying new passport. Choose either one of the given methods to apply for fresh passport. If you want to select “Alternative 1” option then click on the hyperlink provided under “Alternative 1” section. Else click on the hyperlink under “Alternative 2” section.
  8. If you select “Alternative 1” option then choose RPO by selecting the “State” and “District” from where you want to submit your application.
  9. Now you will be taken to the page where you have to select the “Passport Type”. Choose the options as appropriate and click “Next >>” tab.
  10. Please complete the following sections Applicant Details, Family Details, Present Residential Address, Emergency Contact, Identity Certificate/Passport Details, Other Details, Passport Details Verification, Self Declaration. At the end of each page click "Next >>" tab.
  11. After successful submission of your application, Application Reference Number (ARN) will be generated in this page. Please make a note of it. Then you have to make the payment and upload documents by selecting the appropriate options.
  12. On the scheduled appointment date, visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
  13. Please follow the guidelines of the authority in the seva Kendra to initiate the process.
  14. Applicant will have to wait for their turn to present their original documents for cross verification. Once all the process is over, applicant shall take back the originals and will be advised to leave the office and wait for further notice.
  15. This application after internal processing will be forwarded to the respective local police station for verification.
  16. Authorities from local police station visit applicants premises and verify the required documents.
  17. After verification, a report will be sent to the passport office.
  18. Applicant will get notification about police verification status.
  19. If the verification is successful, applicant receives SMS stating passport is getting printed followed by printing complete as per appropriate time.
  20. This passport will be despatched to the applicant. Notification about passport despatched will be notified through SMS to applicant.



Online form Submission Abroad

  1. Please go to the online portal. Link for portal: link
  2. In the given page, choose your country of residence.
  3. A new screen will be provided. Click on "Register" button here to register by completing the resulting page prompts. Please hit “Register” button after completing the above step.
    1. In case your country of residence is not visible in the Global Passport Seva Online Portal, you will have to apply for background check in India i.e. follow Online Form Submission India process,
  4. Now come back to the page where applicant selected “Register” button for the specific country of choice.
  5. Please select “User Login” button to reach login popup. Complete the page prompt with login credentials and hit “Login” button to apply.
  6. Once login, please select “Apply for background verification for GEP” link.
  7. Please fill in the form with applicable details and select “Submit” button to submit the application.
  8. In the resulting screen, click the "Print Application Receipt" link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
  9. Applicant will get the Application reference number (ARN)/Appointment Number in their mobile as SMS.
  10. Now check the Indian Embassy/Consulate website to know about the overall background check application submission process for Global Entry Program (GEP).
  11. Please visit the Embassy/Consulate office or Outsourced Service Provider (OSP) (as per the application submission process of Embassy/Consulate), along with the applicable fee of USD 25 and required original documents.



Apply In-Person

  1. Please visit any of the following centres District Passport Cell (DPC), Speed post Centre (SPC) and Citizen Service Centre (CSC).
  2. Go to the respective centre obtain the application form.
  3. Complete the application form and submit with required documents.
  4. The submitted details will be processed by the authority. Applicant should provide originals for cross verification.
  5. If all are in place, authority will return the originals and announce the fees to be paid. Please pay as appropriate.
  6. Applicant will get an acknowledgement.
  7. This application will be processed further and will be forwarded to the respective local police station for verification.
  8. Authorities from local police station visit applicants premises and verify the required documents.
  9. After verification, a report will be sent to the passport office.
  10. Applicant will get notification about police verification status.
  11. If the verification is successful, applicant receives SMS stating passport is getting printed followed by printing complete as per appropriate time.
  12. This passport will be despatched to the applicant. Notification about passport despatched will be notified through SMS to applicant.



Tatkal Process

  1. Please go to the online portal. Link for portal: link
  2. Please select “New User Registration” button to get new screen.
  3. Please complete the page prompt and click “Register” tab to register.
  4. Come back to home page. Select “Existing User Login” button.
  5. In the given page please login with login ID and select “Continue” button.
  6. Choose between Fresh and Reissue of passport. Next, select the Tatkal
  7. Please complete the page prompts for the application form and submit. At this stage you would also have to upload self-attested copies of your supporting documents.
  8. TO schedule an appointment, click on the Pay and Schedule Appointment You will find this under View Saved/Submitted Applications.
  9. Click on “Print Application Receipt” button to print your application.
  10. Take a printout of the application receipt and note down the application reference number (ARN) or appointment number.
  11. On the scheduled appointment date, visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
  12. Please follow the guidelines of the authority in the seva Kendra to initiate the process.
  13. Applicant will have to wait for their turn to present their original documents for cross verification. Once all the process is over, applicant will get the original document.
  14. As the above mentioned steps are completed, Passport will be delivered as per notified time.
