India - Change Address in Voter List (Electoral Roll)

Apply In-Person:
- Whenever a valid voter ID card holder shifts residence, then the address in the voter ID card need to be changed.
- Application for transposition of entry from one part of electoral roll to another part of electoral roll of a constituency can be applied at the Electoral Registration Office of applicant’s current residential address.
- Go to the office.
- Please collect a copy of Form 8A, for transfer of Name in Voter List OR you can download it online
- Use the following link to download form. Online link for form8A (Hindi / English) Link please click “Download this file” button to get prompt. Please click the “Download” button next to the preferred language to get the form.
- The form has all the necessary guidelines for filling it in. Complete the application form with correct details. Attach required documents as per our required document section. Submit them to the receiving officer.
- On receiving the application, an acknowledgement will be issued in the form of an application reference number, which can be used to track the application status.
- This application will be processed and information will be verified by the electoral authorities.
- On successful verification, applicant will be issued with an updated voter ID having updated address printed on it.
- Applicant will also receive a notification regarding the addition of their name in the electoral roll of the constituency where they currently reside.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Voter ID card is considered as one of the vital documents in considering ones address proof when applying for government services (Passport, Pan etc)
- In case there is a change of address within constituency or outside constituency, then apply for transfer of address on the voter ID.

- A person cannot be enrolled as a voter in more than one place in the same constituency or in more than one constituency in view of the provisions contained under Sec. 17 and 18 of R. P. Act, 1950.
