Apply In-Person
- To modify details in their respective Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) in person, please visit the concerned regional office of the “DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FOREIGN TRADE (DGFT)” for your respective state.
- Once the applicant visits the concerned office, please collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
- Application form can be downloaded from the following link please use the application form on page number 1.
- Please complete the application form. Attach all the required documents as per our “Required Documents” section of this page along with the appropriate payment of fees as per acceptable mode and submit it to the designated receiving authority as advised, or you can send the application by post as per the address provided under the “Office Locations & Contacts” section.
- After receiving the application, a token will be given for the application received at the counter.
- The concerned authorities will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- The deficient application is returned to the counter along with check-sheet and the applicant shall collect the same on production of the token on the next day from the counter. In case of the application is received by post, deficient application will be returned by post.
- The applicants are requested to self-attest all the corrections/additions in the application, at the time of resubmission.
- The check-sheet given along with the deficient application should be returned while resubmitting the application.
- Once the application is accepted, it will be processed further.
- ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please follow department’s notification.
- Once the department finds the application details and documents are appropriate, the required changes will be made in their records. Thus, the update on the “IEC” code will be implemented and the same will be sent to your register email ID or sent to your address mentioned while applying as per applicable norms.
- Note Each individual page of the application has to be signed by the applicant.
Apply Online
- To modify details in their respective “IEC” code online, please use the following link
- In the given home page, please use the “Update IEC” button provided under “Register for your IEC”.
- The applicant will get a login pop-up page. Please use your login credentials (you can find them from the email too) at the prompted space as appropriate and enter the captcha at the given space and please click the “Login” button to login.
- If you are a new user, then use the “REGISTER” section. A registration screen will be provided. Please select “Importer/Exporter” option from the drop-down list provided under “Register User As” and complete the other page prompts as appropriate. Please enter the captcha as appropriate.
- Please click the checkbox for “By registering you are agreeing to our terms & conditions” and hit “Send OTP” button at the bottom to receive “OTP” in the registered mobile number and email ID.
- Please enter the received “OTP’s” at the prompted space under “Enter Email OTP ” and “Enter Mobile OTP ” respectively and click the “Register” button to get a pop-up message “USER HAS BEEN REGISTERED SUCCESSFULLY. PLEASE REFER YOUR REGISTERED MAIL ID FOR USERNAME AND PASSWORD”. Please close the pop-up by selecting the close icon and then login as stated above.
- Once login, the applicant will reach the “Modify IEC” page.
- The applicant shall make use of the required sections as per requirement from “General information” or “Details of Proprietor/Partner/Direct…” or “Bank information” or “Other Details (Preferred sectors of operations)” or “Declaration” or “Application Summary” sections as appropriate.
- On selecting the required section. The applicant shall make required modification using the prompts as applicable. Upload the supporting document as appropriate. Validate and click the “Update” button. Please use the “Save & Next” button at the bottom for each section to get successive section prompts.
- On reaching the “declaration” section, please go through the details and accept using the applicable button at the bottom.
- Finally, on reaching the “Application Summary” section, please click the “Preview IEC Application” button to get a new page with preview of your online application. Please go through the updated/modified application details and if the details are correct,
- Please click the “Sign” button. A pop-up message “Once signed, You will not be able to edit the application, are you sure you want to sign the application” will be provided. Please click “OK” button to get “Sign Submission” screen.
- Please select your signing option from “Aadhaar e-Sign” or “Digital Signature Certificate” by using the “Proceed” option provided under each method. As per the applicant’s choice, authentication shall be completed by following the onscreen information and by processing the requirements with the help of external websites.
- Once the authentication is complete, applicant will get “Documents signed successfully.” Pop-up. Please click the “OK” button.
- Applicant will come back to the online application page. Now, please click the “Proceed to Payment” button to reach the “Payment Details” page.
- Here, please scroll down to the bottom to find “Have you already paid to Miscellaneous Payment System (eMPS) / Legacy Draft Application?” option. Please click the “NO” option and click “Submit” button to get “Payment Mode Online” page.
- Please go through the details and scroll down. Please enter the captcha as appropriate and click “Confirm” button to reach the “Payment Gateway” page.
- Please complete the payment gateway requirements as applicable to make online payment.
- Once the payment is made, applicant will get “E-PAYMENT RECEIPT”. Please use the “Download Receipt” button to save this receipt. Please keep it safe for future reference.
- This application will be processed further. A submission to modify “IEC” shall be auto-approved. But, the required verification for the mandatory sections will be made as per applicable authorities. The applicant shall generate a copy of their updated “IEC” by using the option from the online portal.
- ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please follow department’s notification.
- A submission to modify “IEC” will not be auto-approved. The applicant must generate a copy of their updated “IEC” by using the option from the online portal.
- Once the department finds the application details and documents are appropriate, the “IEC” code will be updated and the same will be sent to your register email ID.
To print IEC
- The applicant shall print the “IEC” code by login again.
- Once login, please scroll down and click “IEC” button provided under “QUICK LINKS” for a new page. Here, please use the “Apply” option provided under “Print IEC” to get the certificate downloaded.
- Thus, the updated/modified “IEC” code is obtained through online.

- Copy of the “GST” certificate.
- Covering letter on the applicant’s letterhead, duly signed by authorized signatory.
- Proof for change in the name of the concern as per the class stated below.
In case of proprietary
- Bank certificate along with the photograph of applicant, duly certified by the banker. In case the bank is also new, the applicant may furnish an affidavit duly notarized by the notary for change of name/address along with the bank certificate.
In case of Partnership
- Bank certificate along with the photograph of the applicant, duly certified by the banker. In case the bank is also new, the applicant may furnish an affidavit duly notarized by the notary for change of name/address along with the bank certificate.
- Copy of reconstituted deed of partnership. Deed either registered or notarized and consent from the other partners.
- Copy of the amended PAN card.
In case of Companies / LLP
- Bank certificate along with the photograph of the applicant, duly certified by banker. In case the bank is also new, the applicant may furnish an affidavit duly notarized by the notary for change of name/address along with the bank certificate.
- Self certified copy of certificate of ROC indicating the change of name and Receipt of payment made to ROC or ROC master details.
- Copy of the amended PAN card.
As proof of change in name, address / constitution of the Trust/Society, etc.
- Bank certificate with the photograph of the applicant, duly certified by the banker.
- Self certified copy of documents issued by charity commissioner/ Registrar of society and other relevant authorities.
- Copy of amended PAN card.
- Proof for change in address of the concern
In case of proprietary/ partnership
- Bank certificate along with the photograph of the applicant, duly certified by the banker.
- Copy of valid lease deed or tax receipt or any address proof issued by the government department.
In case of Companies/LLP
- Bank certificate along with the photograph of the applicant, duly certified by banker.
- Self certified copy of form 18 for change of address and receipt of payment made to ROC or ROC master details.
- Proof for change in partner/director/trustee/members of co-op society.
In case of proprietary (Not allowed except on account of death of applicant for onward transfer to legal heir)
- Death certificate.
- Legal heir ship.
- Consent from other heirs if any.
- Copy of PAN card for the new applicant.
- Bank certificate.
In case of partnership
- Self certified copy of the registered/notarized reconstituted deed of the partnership.
- Consent from the other partners.
- Bank certificate in case there is change in signatory of the application.
In case of companies
- Self certified copy of form 32 filed to ROC and ROC master details with copy of the challan.
- Bank certificate in case there is change in signatory of the application.
In case of LLP
- Self certified copy of form 4 filed to ROC with copy of challan and ROC master details.
- Bank certificate in case there is change in signatory of the application.
In case of Trust/Society
- Self-certified copy of election result or other documentary evidence showing the elected member details.
- Proof for addition/deletion of branch/factory etc. (self-certified documentary).
- Shop & Establishment Certificate/Excise Registration Certificate/Sales Tax Registration Certificate/factory licence, Industrial licence etc.
In case of change in constitution of the firm from Proprietorship firm to Partnership firm
- Self certified copy of registered partnership deed clearly indicating change in constitution from proprietorship firm to partnership firm.
- Bank certificate with photograph of the applicant, duly certified by the banker.
- Consent from the other partners.
- Copy of PAN card in the name of the firm.
For change in constitution of the firm from Partnership firm to company
- Self certified copy of Certificate of Incorporation.
- Memorandum & Articles of Association.
- Bank certificate with photograph of applicant duly certified by banker.
- Copy of PAN card in the name of the company
- Change in PAN self-certified copy of PAN with reasons.
- Aadhaar card of the applicant.
- Digital signature (digital signature is not mandatory if aadhaar details are matching with “PAN” and phone number is linked to aadhaar).
- Self-addressed envelope for office and bank with stamps of Rs. 40/- (Each).
Documents required for applicant being an individual
- Applicant’s Residence proof (ration card / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence).
- Applicant’s Identity proof (ration card / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence).
- Passport size photograph (3 numbers).
- Certificate of Incorporation or partnership deed in case of partnership firm.
- Company “PAN” card.
- Authorized applicant’s “PAN” card.
- Authorized applicant’s (authorized partner / director) residence proof (ration card / Passport / Aadhaar card / Driving licence).

- Note Apart from the above documents, applicant may be prompted to provide additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

EligibilityEdit
- Those having valid “IEC” code shall apply for modification of import export code.
- Individual or a firm with a valid “IEC” code looking to change their branch details, address change, change in PAN card number, a director change, deletion or addition of a partner and so on are eligible to apply for this procedure.
FeesEdit
- You have to pay a sum of Rs. 200 for modification in Importer Exporter Code.
- In case the application for modification is made after 90 days of such changes, the delay shall be condoned on payment of penalty of Rs.1000.
ValidityEdit
- The modification in “IEC” doesn’t affect the validity of this code. This code is unique and valid forever. Until, otherwise, there is any change in norms by the government.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- It is must to, update the change of details of an import-export firm. The change of details such as, adding branch details, address change, change in “PAN” card number, a director change, deletion or addition of a partner and so on.
- If these corrections are not made, then there will be consequences of the import-export process (due to the mismatch details in DGFT and customs).
- A business entity with proper “IEC” will be a structured one and will have goodwill.
- An importer, during customs clearance, requires “IEC” code without any mismatch in details.
