Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for HACCP Certification, the applicant has to approach the FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS AUTHORITY OF INDIA link
  2. Before applying for HACCP certification, make sure the team is knowledgeable about the HACCP principles. Training the staff on food safety practices and the HACCP methodology is crucial.
  3. Research and identify a reputable certification body accredited by the relevant authority in India, such as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
  4. The certification body will assess your facility's compliance with HACCP standards.
  5. Develop a comprehensive HACCP plan specific to your food production process. This plan should outline the critical control points (CCPs), preventive measures, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification processes.
  6. Implement the HACCP plan in your food production process. This involves putting in place the necessary controls, monitoring systems, and documentation procedures to ensure food safety.
  7. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  8. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  9. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  10. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  11. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  12. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  13. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  14. Then the application will be processed further.
  15. Once the applicant is confident in the HACCP implementation, the certification body will conduct an on-site audit to assess the facility's adherence to HACCP principles. This audit involves reviewing documentation, processes, and overall food safety practices.
  16. If any deficiencies are identified during the audit, the applicant will need to take corrective actions to address them. These actions should be documented and implemented promptly.
  17. Based on the audit findings and corrective actions, the certification body will make a decision regarding the HACCP certification. If the facility meets the required standards, the applicant will be granted HACCP certification.
  18. This entire process can be completed within 3 – 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for HACCP certification, an organization must:

  • Have a written HACCP plan that is based on the seven HACCP principles.
  • Implement the HACCP plan and monitor its effectiveness.
  • Keep records of the HACCP plan and its implementation.
  • Have a management system in place to ensure that the HACCP plan is maintained and updated as needed.

  • The HACCP certificate is valid for three years. To maintain their certification, organizations must undergo a surveillance audit every year.
