PROCESS FOR CITIZENS AND NON CITIZENS OF HUNGARY – FOR BOTH WHO LIVE IN HUNGARY AND OUTSIDE HUNGARY:

I. Applying process in Hungary
a. Apply in person
  1. Applicant shall apply at the ‘KEKKH” customer service center.

  3. Go to the respective office. (1133 Budapest, Visegrádi utca 110–112.)
    1. during opening hours - Monday-till Thursday 8:00 – 16:30 - on Friday 8:00 – 14:00
  4. Don’t forget to take the required documents copy along with originals to the office.
  5. Please talk to the authority for your requirement. As per authorities advice one has to submit the application along with documents.
  6. Applicant should pay for the certificate as advised.
  7. The certificate can be collected from the office where applicant applied in person upon notification.


b. Apply online - Hungary Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct) Online with Images
  1. You can apply online if you are already registered with the Customer Service Centre and possess a recognized electronic signature by applying through the portal : online portal

  4. Please use the login tab provided on top right corner to reach the login screen.
  5. Applicant shall select the respective tab to process this application. After processing applicant will get the certificate delivered through mail as notification.


c. Through “OkmányApp” mobile app:
  1. You can apply through mobile app.
  2. Link to download the app: online
  3. Once the app is installed, user shall select “Request information about criminal records” (free of cost service) option after the initial registration and login process as instructed.
  4. Certificate will be delivered through mail as applicable Or as per the departments decision.


d. Mail(Post)
  1. Applicant should complete the application form and attach required documents for applying through mail.
  2. The application form as well as the instruction for completing is available at post offices: link
  3. The completed application form along with documents must be sent by registered mail to the following address:

  1. Application will be processed, Certificate will be delivered by mail as recorded delivery, the certificate can be received at the address stated in the application and in this case the addressee has the exclusive right for the receipt.


II. Applying process overseas
a. Apply at Hungarian embassy or consulate
  1. Applicant can apply at their nearest Hungarian embassy or consulate.

  3. Call the office and fix appointment also find out the details for this procedure.
  4. On the scheduled date, go to the office with all the document in original and in copy.
  5. Please follow as per officer guidelines to process your application.
  6. A consular fee must be paid. The consular fee varies by the consulates.
  7. This application will be processed by the respective department. The completed certificates are forwarded to the consulates.
  8. If the legislation of the host country does not allow it, we forward the certificate in paper form to the consulate by diplomatic service through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
  9. Applicant shall collect the certificate from the respective office upon notification.

  • Valid identity document (identity card, passport, driving license)
  • Address card (official certificate on personal identifier and address of domicile)

Foreign national

  • A copy of your passport while living in Hungary.
  • A copy of your permit of stay in Hungary, passport number and place of issue as well.

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
  • Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
  • The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
  • Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

FeesEdit

  • Issued four times a year free of charge. Over and above shall be paid as laid down in the Act XCIII of 1990 on Duties (3 000 HUF).
  • In case of paper based application by revenue stamp to be purchased at post offices.
  • In case of electronic application by bank transfer or by electronic (online) credit card through “Electronic Payment and Settlement System (EFER)”.
  • In case of submitting application in person at the Personal “Customer Service Centre of the KEKKH” by revenue stamp or by credit card.
  • Fee varies for case to case. Updated fee requirement will be provided by respective authorities while applying.


ValidityEdit

  • The Certificate is valid for 90 days from the issuance, unless act prescribes otherwise.
  • Validity norms vary from country to country.

Processing TimeEdit

  • The Certificate will be issued within 8 days upon the receipt of the application.
  • In case of submission in person – 1 day to 5 days.
  • Processing time varies with respect to the country from where applied.

InstructionsEdit

The Official Certificate of Good Conduct can only be arranged in person by appointment

Only one Certificate will be issued per application. If there is a need for more certificates, a fresh application has to be submitted for each certificate, and service fee paid for each application.

The application can be submitted

  • by post on an official application form,
  • by phone via Government Customer Line 1818,
  • electronically using the Client Gate at the Hungarian eGovernment portal, where Client Gate identification is required,
  • personally at the Customer Service of the Criminal Records Authority in Budapest, in case of priority service,
  • in person at Hungarian Embassies or Consulates abroad.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A police certificate is an official certificate issued by the police or government agency to specify any criminal records that a person may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.

The Official Certificate of Good Conduct is issued based on data registered in Criminal Records. The certificates exclude data related to offence proceedings.

The Hungarian Police Clearance Certificate (also known as Certificate of Good Character) is issued upon the request of the person who needs it.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

The certificate of good conduct can prove that the individual

  • has no record in the register of convicted persons, and/or
  • is not under the effect of deprivation of civil rights, and/or
  • is not hindered from exercising a profession or an activity, or
  • complies with conditions defined by a Hungarian act.
