ProcedureEdit

  1. To apply for a Special Residence Permit, applicants will need to go to the Office of National Migration Institute and present all required documents.
  2. Submit a completed application together with all the required documents.
  3. Pay the application fee.
  4. After your application is approved. You will need to proceed to the National Register of Foreigners in the National Migration Institute for registration, and obtain a document stating that you have been granted special permission to stay in the country.

Required DocumentsEdit

General requirements:

  • Completed application
  • Power of Attorney. If the application is to be submitted by someone other than the applicant.
  • Recent photograph (6cms x 5cms)
  • Criminal record in the country of origin and last residence (if applicable), authenticated.
  • Certification issued by the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation DGIC
  • Medical certificate, not older than 6 months.
  • Authenticated photocopy of the passport.
  • All documents issued in a language other than Spanish must be officially translated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, besides being an apostil (where applicable).


Special requirements:

  • Students:
    • Proof of Admission to the Institution where the applicant will be studying or interning
  • Accredit livelihood for the duration of the studies or internship.
  • Refugees: Resolution of the National Institute of Migration by which recognizes refugee status, depending on the circumstances that apply; expanding the direct dependents and verified the applicant.
  • Stateless individuals: Resolution of the Secretariat of Human Rights, Justice, Interior and Decentralization by which recognizes the quality of Stateless.
  • Asylee : Resolution of the Secretariat of Human Rights, Justice, Interior and Decentralization by which recognizes the right of Territorial Asylum, depending on the circumstances that apply; expand the spouse, children, grandparents of the applicant.
  • Migrant workers:
    • Application submitted by the natural or legal person requesting services from abroad, also stating:
      • type of activity that the applicant will be doing during his/her stay.
      • responsibility for the subsistence of the contract.
      • commitment to notify the National Migration Institute on the departure of contract and any mishap or circumstance.
      • justification that the alien is qualified to perform the work for which you are being hired.
    • Documents issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security certifying compliance with the constitutional provision regarding hiring foreigners (90% Honduras 10% foreigners).
  • Social service:
    • public or private institution which provide social services.
    • Accredit livelihoods for the time remaining in the country.
  • Religious services:
    • Accreditation issued by the head of the church or authorized authority
    • Proof of source of income.
  • Hired by Private Enterprise:
    • Company documents notarized:
      • Copy of the Articles of Incorporation or declaration of individual trader.
      • Current operating permit.
      • Proof of the Executive Directorate of Revenue (DEI) have begun operations and to be working in commercial establishment.
      • Proof of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security certifying compliance with the constitutional provision regarding hiring foreigners (90% Honduras 10% foreigners).
      • Income statement and authorized by chartered accountant balances.
      • Declaration of responsibility for the subsistence of the contract.
      • labor contract issued abroad to provide services.
    • Accreditation coming from an educational institution or vocational or technical institute, certifying that the alien has the appropriate ability and knowledge to fulfill his/her job.
  • Hired by state institutions centralized or decentralized: Employment contract issued by the institution of the State for which lend their services.
  • Hired by Public Law Entities:
    • Employment contract issued by the public entity for which lend their services.
    • Declaration of responsibility for subsistence and commitment to notify the National Migration Institute on leaving the country and any other accident or circumstance which occurs with the contract.
    • Proof of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security certifying compliance with the constitutional provision regarding hiring foreigners (90% Honduras 10% foreigners).

EligibilityEdit

Special residence permit is an authorization granted by the National Migration Institute to foreigners temporarily living in the country (up to five years) and are included in the following immigration categories:

  • Students at any level of the national education system.
  • Refugees and stateless persons.
  • Asylees.
  • migrant workers.
  • Foreigners in social service.
  • Religious.
  • Foreigners who voluntarily provide humanitarian and charitable services for the country.
  • Foreign commercial or public entertainment activities.
  • Foreigners hired as temporary employees through natural or legal person, international organizations, or government institutions.
  • Scientists, professionals, athletes and specialized technical personnel employed by natural or juridical person.
  • Entrepreneurs, managers of domestic or foreign corporations authorized to engage in acts of commerce in the country.
  • Spouse and minor or dependent elderly and grandparents immigration status of any children.
