Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A paternity test, also known as a DNA test, is a test that is used to determine the biological relationship between a child and an alleged father.
  • The test compares the DNA of the child with that of the alleged father to determine whether they share a biological relationship.

Information which might helpEdit

  • A paternity test is typically performed using a sample of DNA obtained from the child and the alleged father.
  • The DNA sample is typically collected using a buccal swab, which involves rubbing a small swab on the inside of the cheek to collect cells containing DNA.
  • The samples are then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
  • The laboratory will compare the DNA profiles of the child and the alleged father to determine the probability of paternity.
  • A paternity index (PI) is calculated based on the comparison of specific DNA markers, and this index is used to determine the likelihood of paternity.
  • A PI of 99% or higher is typically considered conclusive evidence of paternity, while a PI of less than 1% is considered conclusive evidence of non-paternity.
