Note: Documentary proof affects anyone applying for a Hawaii State Identification Card, including U.S. citizens and foreign-born applicants. The documentary proof also applies to anyone who has just moved to Hawaii from another state or country, and anyone renewing their Hawaii State Identification Card.

Required DocumentsEdit

Documentary proof documents: U.S. birth certificates and U.S. passports.

Foreign born applicants may present other documents, such as: Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization, Resident Alien Card, or a valid foreign passport with a Visa and I-94.

Documents presented for proof of name, date of birth, legal presence and social security number must be valid originals or certified copies.

Photo copies or fax copies of proof documents are not acceptable.

EligibilityEdit

Applicant must be a minimum age of ten years old.


For applicants who are under the age of fourteen years: the application shall be made on the minors behalf by the parent, or by another individual in loco parentis of the minor who can provide proof of guardianship. In the case of an incapacitated/incompetent individual, the application shall be made by the individual having custody or control of or maintaining the incapacitated/incompetent individual as indicated in appropriate documentation.

  • Renewal - 1 Year: $5.00
  • Renewal - 8 Year: $40.00
  • Duplicate: $6.00



ValidityEdit

  • For Residents: The card expires on the eighth birthday after the year of issuance
  • For Legal Non-Immigrants: The card expires on the same date as the expiration of legal stay.

Each individual applying for an initial Hawaii State Identification Card will be required to provide documentary proof of:

  • Legal name and date of birth
  • Legal Presence
  • Social Security Number
  • Proof of Principal Residence (Two documents required)

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
