ProcedureEdit

  1. Fill out the application form.
  2. Submit the application along with a completed Notice of Terms of Engagement. The start date on the Notice of Terms of Engagement must not be earlier than the date of issue of the work permit.
  3. Pay the application fee of 20.00 and addition the employer must also make a deposit of money to the Director which will cover the worker's repatriation cost.
  4. Various conditions will need to be met by the employer before approval may be granted for the issue of a work permit.


Notes:

  • Employing a worker for whom a work permit is required without the employer having first obtained such a permit is an offence and the employer may be asked to pay a fine amounting to 1,500 - 3,000.
  • The employer may also provide further information in support of the application for the issue of the work permit.
  • The Director of Employment may request further information to be supplied if he feels it is required to consider the application for the issue of a work permit.

EligibilityEdit

Individuals who are non-entitled to work in Gibraltar (for example: non-EEA nationals) will require the prospective employer to obtain a work permit before commencement of employment.


Note: Swiss nationals do not need to secure a work permit for employment in Gibraltar.



FeesEdit

Application fee: 20.00


A deposit of money will need to be made by the employer to the Director. The amount which will be decided by the Director must be enough to cover cost of repatriation of the worker upon termination of the engagement.



ValidityEdit

A work permit is valid for a period not exceeding 12 months.
