Procedure

Apply In-Person
You could approach the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Department in person to apply for the learner driver license. Office location can be found under heading "Office Locations & Contacts" of this page.

Apply through Post

1. You can download the necessary application forms from the following link : Application Forms
2. Fill up the application form and send it to the following address. Driver & Vehicle Licensing Department, HM Government of Gibraltar, Eastern Beach Road, Gibraltar.
   
   

Note : Cheques must be made out to "Government General Account". It is not recommended to send cash in the post. If you have any doubts as to the fees required or any other enquiry, please use the contact information provided under section "Office Locations & Contacts" of this page.

Eligibility

• Gibraltar residents who are seventeen or over can apply for a learners licence, for the varied categories of vehicles.
• The applicant must have been residing in Gibraltar or United Kingdom or Northern Ireland for 185 days during the last 12 months.
• Learners licences shall not be considered if the date of the application is more than 15 months from the date of issue of the CBT certificate.

Fees

The prescribed fee for the learners licence is 5.00.
The prescribed fee for the CBT certificate is 15.00 and the prescribed fee for the 15 months learners licence is 25.00.

Validity

The licence is valid for a period of three months.

Instructions

• In the case of Motorcycles a Compulsory Basic Training must first be given to a person prior to the issue to that person of a learners licence.
