How to Apply
In-Person Application
- Visit the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) office near you and express your interest at the service desk.
- You will then be required to pay for the application form A, at a cost of GHS 3.50 atthe in-house bank or download it via theRGD website or click the link below to download : (Application form)
- Please read carefully through the application form as it contain different sections.
- Pick the control ticket service number and wait for your ticket number to be called.
- Submit the accurately completed form along with the supporting documents (listed below) at the Businessnames Registration Counter for Verification and processing.
- Pay the processing application fees at the in-house bank.
- If the authorized official is satisfied that all the information are in order, you will be notified of the outcome and issued with the certified true copy (CTC) of from A and the business registration certificate.
Online Application
- Visit the Registrar general’s department (RGD) website : Apply Online
- LOGIN by entering your user ID and password then click on “GO”, If you don’t have an account you will be required to sign up click on “Ghana online portal access” to create an account.
- On the RGD portal home page click on “service” tab, the Service page will be displayed, click on“Name reservation “under the business section.
- Name Reservation Dashboard will be displayed. Click “create new” button.
- Entity Name Details page will be displayed, under entity type enter “sole proprietorship” and under entity name enter “the business name your wish to registrar” and then click on “proceed” button.
- You will be redirected to the next page to begin the Business Name Reservation application process.
- Enter the “Business Details” i.e. Nature of Business, Description, Principal activity then click on “save and proceed “button.
- You will be required to enter “Other Details” i.e. RGD registration branch office, Notification mode (email/SMS) and then click on “Save and Proceed” button.
- The next page will display the “summary details” of the application, verify that all the information are in order.
- Then click on the “upload “button to initiate the uploading of the required documents.
- “Document Upload” pop-up window will display, Select the Document type by clicking the Tick Box, Enter Document Description then click on “Upload “button.
- “File Upload” will display, Select the document then click on “Open” button.
- “Document Upload” window with Uploaded Document will display then click on “Done” button to return to the main screen.
- The next page will display the “application summary” for verification, if all the information are in order, click on “confirm “button.
- Success Message will display. Click on “Print” button if you wish to have a copy of the transaction.
- The next step is making payment, Click Print Button to have a copy of transaction for payment or Click on “Make a Payment” link if you want to make a payment through RGD portal or via the RGD in house bank ( Payment can be also made at Authorize bank)
- Click “OK” button to complete the process.
- You will be notified of the outcome via email/SMS of the outcome and given further instruction.
Note:
You may track the progress of the transaction via the Portal Dashboard
Printing out the certificate:
- Re-visit the RGD the home page by clicking the link below and log in : Printing Online
- On the RGD portal home page click on “service” tab, the Service page will be displayed.
- Click on ”Generate e-certificate” link under e-shop, to save and print certificate and other supporting documents after approval is given.

- A Sole Proprietorship (also known as a sole trader or simply a proprietorship) is a type of business entity that is usually owned and operated by one person
- In relation to act 151 of business name registration of 1962 constitution of Ghanaall businesses are required to register with the Ministry of justice and attorney, registration general’s department and obtain a business licences to be able to operate.
