ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Register as Nurse or Midwife in person, the applicant has to approach the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. contact link
  2. Applicant should obtain the application form from NMC department.
  3. The application must be completed in full and be presented to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana through the respective institution of training.
  4. All applications must be accompanied with a copy of your National Identity Card [ID]/passport. Applicants for re-entry to examination must also attach the previous NMC Examination Result Slip.
  5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  6. Make all the necessary payments to obtain application forms and all other necessary documents.
  7. Also, make sure that the applicant has all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  8. Attach all the documents to the forms before submission application to the authority.
  9. The applicant should make sure that he/she is eligible for applying for temporary nursing license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
  10. Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents to the NMC office.
  11. This application will be processed and the information will be verified by the NMC.
  12. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
  13. The applicant after seeing the notification can go to the NMC office and the applicant gets the certificate.
  14. The processing time for this procedure takes 30 days.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Copy of Birth Certificate.
  • Photocopies of Professional Certificates (original copy to be presented for inspection).
  • Copy of your National Identity Card [ID]/passport
  • NMC Examination Result Slip.
  • Inspection form – obtained from NMC –completed and stamped by the DHOs office.
  • Identity Card from the Secondary School
  • Pass Slip and Certificate of ‘O’ level
  • Identity Card from the Nurse Training School.
  • At least 1 year of midwifery experience for entry-level role.
  • Proof of obtaining qualification requirements in nursing from an accredited nursing college or University.
  • Two passport size picture (colored with white background and complete name tag)
  • Two sets of metered documentary stamps
  • One short brown envelope with name and profession
  • Original receipt.

EligibilityEdit

  • A nurse who has served in a hospital or approved health unit for not less than ten years and has a current license to practice.( Private General Nursing Clinic)



FeesEdit

  • 10,000/= For photographs for Certificate
  • 120,000/= Enrollment fee or US $ 200 for Non –Ghanaians
  • 150,000/= Registration fee or US $ 200 for Non –Ghanaians
  • 50,000/= Additional Diploma fee for RCN or US $ 50 for Non –Ghanaians
  • 13,000/= Professional ID Card
  • 1,000/= Continuing Education Diary
  • 5,000/= Professional Code of Conduct
  • 10,000/= Nurses Act (1996)
  • 25,000/= Midwifery Handbook



ValidityEdit

  • This certificate is valid for one year and must be renewed by 31 March of each year.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Each nurse in Ghana is required to be registered with the Nursing Council of Ghana in accordance with the Nurses Act Cap 257 of the Laws of Ghana, in order to practice nursing in Kenya.
  • It is an offence to practice as a Ghana Registered Nurse in Kenya without registering with the Nursing Council of Ghana.
