Apply In-Person:
- To Register a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Ghana, the applicant must go to the non-Profit Organization secretariat. Contact link
- Organize yourselves in a group to form a Non-governmental organization.
- Applicants provide 3 business/ organization name for search for availability of a name.
- Processing fee of GHS 1000 is charge for the name search and reservation.
- To reserve the available name, the applicant has to obtain an Application for Reservation of Name from the relevant department.
- Once a name has been approved, it is reserved for a period of sixty (60) days.
- Fill in the name reservation form as required and submit it for the process of reserving the company name.
- When the name has been reserved, the applicant can proceed to apply for registering the organization.
- Visit the non-Profit Organization secretariat and the applicant must obtain the application form.
- Applicant must fill all the information in the application form.
- Please make sure that the applicant has all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
- Minutes of the meeting seeking registration and showing elected officials MUST be attached to the Application form.
- List of members duly signed with Name/Position/ID No. and Signatures MUST be attached to the Application form.
- Attach the all documents to the forms before submission application to the authority.
- Pay the Approved Registration fee of GHS.5, 000/= and lodge the application at the office of the Social Protection officer.
- Applicant should then proceed to pay the applicable application fees. A Processing fee of GHS. 16,000 is charged for national NGOs and GHS.30,000 for International NGOs.
- It takes 5 days to be registered. If approved, an acknowledgment of registration is issued by the Respective Office.

- Evidence(s) of previous year activities
- Proof of bank account
- Proof of payment
- Original copies of newspaper publications
- Passport-sized photographs of the elected members

Need for the DocumentEdit
- An NGO needs to be registered for it to carry out its objectives in Ghana. After registration, the NGO is given an operating permit, which allows them to operate in Ghana.
