Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Certificate (Licence) to import Live Fish in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the ministry of fishers and aquaculture development. contact link
  2. Letter of application from owners of the ship or their agents addressed to the Director General, Ghana MOFAD indicating the company’s interest in registering a vessel in Ghana.
  3. Letter of Application for approval of vessels name. This is done by completing and submitting the required Form at the Ship Registry.
  4. Letter of Application for condition survey Application for condition survey shall be made to the Director General, upon payment of a statutory fee fees payable depends on the gross tonnage of the vessel. A surveyor would be nominated by the Registrar of Ships for the survey.
  5. Completion and submission of forms.
    • Declaration of ownership (Form 1) this form shall be completed by the owner of the Vessel and return after declaration before a Commissioner for Oath at the High Court.
    • Application form for registration of ship (Form 2) - This Forms shall be obtained at Ship registry. Duly completed forms shall be returned to Ship registry department with the attached document.
  6. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  7. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  8. On completion of this process, MOFAD will issue to the applicant certificate.
  9. The processing takes 1-3 months.

  • Sale & Purchase Agreement, Bill of Sale - or if the Vessel is newly built, then a Builder's Certificate
  • Power of Attorney
  • Deletion Certificate from previous registry (or Builder's Certificate if brand new)
  • Copy of certificate of incorporation;
  • CTC of Memorandum and Articles of Association;
  • CTC of Form CAC 7 (Particulars of Directors);
  • CTC of Form CAC 2 (Allotment of Shares)
  • Current tax clearance certificate;
  • Airway bill showing scientific and local names and quantities
  • Invoice showing scientific and local names and quantities
  • Import permit
  • Health Certificate from a competent authority from the country of origin.

EligibilityEdit

Obtain a Certificate of to import Live Fish is eligible to the following ship owners:

  • Nationals of Ghana,
  • Corporations registered in Ghana,
  • Foreign ship owning entity hiring out on bareboat charter to Ghanaian nationals and
  • Individual or corporation in joint venture enterprise relationship with Ghanaian nationals.



FeesEdit

  • $1,500.00 - if owned by a foreigner
  • $1,000.00 - if owned by a Ghanaian (or a Kenyan corporation which is a nominal expense to arrange)

  • Valid for 1 year and a renewal is required.

  • A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.
