Apply In-Person:
- Applicant has to approach the Register General Department in Ghana and applicant can get their application form for Marriage Print request contact link
- Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
- Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
- Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
- Fill out the prescribed Declaration Form, attach the supporting document (listed below) and submit them for verification.
- If the marriage register is satisfied that all the conditions for filling the request are meeting, applicant will be notified and issued with the marriage print.
- Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 3 months.
Apply online
- Visit the Registrar general’s department (RGD) website link
- LOGIN by entering your user ID and password then click on “GO”, If you don’t have an account you will be required to sign up click on “Ghana online portal access” to create an account.
- On the RGD portal home page click on “service” tab. The Service page will be display, click on “Marriage print request” under the marriage section.
- Marriage print request Dashboard page will be displayed, Click on “Create New “button.
- RGD Portal will then display, Existing Booking available for Print Request, Click on “Booking No “to begin the request application.
- Update details, page will be displayed and you will be required to Select Print type, Enter Reason for Request then Click on “Save & Proceed” button.
- Notification details, page will be displayed select the mode of notification you prefer and enter your details, then Click on “Save & Proceed” button.
- Summary Details page of the application will be displayed for verification, if all the information are accurate then click on “Confirm” button.
- Success Message will then be display. Click on “Print” button if you wish to have a copy of the transaction.
- The next step is making payment, Click Print Button to have a copy of transaction for payment( Payment are made at Authorize banks) or Click on “Make a Payment” link if you want to make the payment through RGD portal.
- Click “OK” button to complete the process.
Printing out the certificate/request:
- Re-visit the RGD the home page by clicking the link below and log in link
- On the RGD portal home page click on “service” tab, the Service page will be displayed.
- Click on “Generate e-certificate” link under e-shop, to save and print certificate and other supporting documents after approval is given.

- The couple must get married within three months
- The couples must be married in Ghana.
- Parties should have attained the legal age of marriage
FeesEdit
- Fee for this marriage certificate is GHS 5.
ValidityEdit
- A marriage certificate is valid until one of the spouse’s death or in the event of an absolute divorce.

- Ghana governed by marriages act (cap 127) and is the only, strictly monogamous legal means of marriage in Ghana.
Required InformationEdit
- The full name and the addresses of both applicants.
- Age and sex
- The occupation of the applicants
- The details of the applicants’ parents
- The details of the two witnesses to the marriage
- The residence of both applicants
- Details of other existing marriages of the groom (if any)
- The condition of the wife (unmarried woman, divorced, single)
- The date and the place of the marriage
Need for the DocumentEdit
- The certified is needed when Applying for foreign visa as one of the couple is working in a foreign country.
- The certificate is needed when applying for passport and/or some other such document, which contains the name of one’s spouse.

There are three types of valid marriage recognized by the Ghanaian law:
- Customary marriage
- marriage under the Marriage Ordinance and
- Islamic marriage under the Marriage of Mohammedans Ordinance.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
This certificate can be used as proof for many purposes:
- The certificate is needed for Spouses to file joint taxes and receive tax breaks.
- If you plan on buying a house and need to apply for a mortgage loan, many lenders will ask for a marriage certificate. This is so lenders can check your credit history jointly and separately
- Marriage certificate can also help you migrate with your family to any country without many restrictions.
- If wife changes her second name and adopts the husbands. All her old documents are in her maiden name. The marriage certificate will bind them to her as it will show both her maiden name and the new adopted name.
