Ghana - Apply for a Research Permit

Apply In-Person:
- Applicant can obtain a Research Permit by applying to the Controller-General of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) office Contact link
- The Applicant has to approach the Ghana Immigration Service centre and the applicant can get their application form.
- Fill out the application form and other relevant documents.
- Applicants are strongly advised to read the attached privacy policy and to complete and sign the Consent Form. Prior to submitting your application at the Ghana Embassy in your home country.
- If a completed and signed consent form is not included with the application, your application will be rejected, and will be obligated to be returned to you.
- Pay Visa fees and biometric fee, if required, as per instructions in the application form fee schedule.
- Visit Ghana Embassy in your country of origin make sure you bring your passport, photographs, completed application forms and all supporting documents as per checklist and application fee instrument. Applicable service charges will be levied. Pay permits fees and biometric fee, if required, as per instructions on the study Guidelines from the Visa Office or website.
- Please note that when submitting your application form for the research permit, in person or by mail, permit fees must be paid in addition to service charge.
- If the applicants need to give your biometrics, the Embassy will collect your biometrics at the same time you submit your application.
- When applying at the Embassy, pay the service charges, submit complete application and obtain a receipt. This receipt contains a unique tracking number which is important as it is required to track the progress of your application online.
- Research permit are processed within seven 30 working days of submission of applications.

- Completed and Signed Research Permit Application form
- 2 Passport Size Photo
- Copy of the “Biodata Page” of the applicant’s Passport
- Request Letter
- Medical Report (Taken in less than 3 months)
- Local Police Report (18 years or Above)
- Acceptance Letter from the Institution where the research will be undertaken
- Sponsorship Letter
- Financial Statements
- Copy of Return Ticket (For Less than 12 months)
- Ministry of Education Approval
- Application Fee
- Progress Report
- Copy of the Thesis
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the applicant

- Only Individual application is accepted by the Ghana Immigration Service centre. No bulk/batch application should be made.
- If the research permit applicant is a married person, then
- He / She must submit the Marriage Certificate
- Children’s Birth Certificate
- Police Report for Spouse
- Medical Reports for spouse and children (if applying for a permit)
- A completely filled application is only accepted.
