Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Refugee Passport (Special Travelling Document) in person, the applicant must visit the Ghana Refugee Board or Immigration Service (GIS) office Contact link or Contact link
  2. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
  3. Fill out the application form and other relevant documents and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  4. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  5. Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents to the respective office.
  6. After send the applicant’s application, it will be reviewed at the visa office to make sure it has been completed correctly and that it contains all the required documents.
  7. A visa officer will decide if an interview with the applicant is necessary. If an interview is required, the applicant will be notified of the time and place.
  8. If the applicant’s application is refused, the applicant’s passport and other documents will be returned to the applicant. (Applicant will also receive an explanation why the applicant’s application was refused and if the applicant sent fraudulent documents, they will not be returned).
  9. If the applicant’s application is approved, his/her passport and documents will be returned to the applicant with him/her visa.
  10. Visas are processed within 30 working days of submission of applications.

Required DocumentsEdit

The following documents are to be attached to the visa application letter:

  • Application form.
  • Bank receipt slip (proof of payment)
  • Refugee identification card
  • Attach a copy of a birth certificate, adoption order consent letter from parents/guardians in case of minors.
  • Resident permit
  • 3 Colour Passport size photographs with a white background.
  • Attach any other information that may be relevant to the application

EligibilityEdit

  • Any refugees who live in Ghana, can apply for this visa.


FeesEdit

  • The application fee will be charged the same as the normal passport fee GHS.250,000


ValidityEdit

  • This visa is valid for 10 years as long as the refugee status still holds.
