Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Postal Address Rental Post Office BOX in Ghana, the applicant has to visit the Ghana Post Office. contact link
2. Choose the applicant’s rental period and sign the Postal Box rental agreement that details the terms and conditions.
3. A  letter of authorization if the applicants want to rent a Postal Box on behalf of someone else or pick up their mail.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
6. Rental fees for personal and professional boxes can be found on the Ghana Post office.
7. Payment for Convenience Postal Boxes must be paid in advance for the selected rental period. For information on current Convenience Postal Box rental rates, please ask the applicant’s post office representative
8. To rent a Postal Box, the applicant will need to make a $15 deposit plus applicable taxes for the 2 keys he/she will receive.
9. If his/her require a 24-hour security access key (where available), the deposit is $15.90 for 1 key, plus applicable taxes. All key deposits are fully refundable when the applicants return his/her keys.
10. Receive 2 keys for the applicant’s box, and a key for the Postal Box lobby, if applicable.
11. Begin receiving mail through the applicant’s Postal Box address and pick it up when his/her like.
12. The processing time for this procedure takes 6-12 days.

Instructions

• If he/she receives a package through the national postal system, a notice will be delivered to his/her PO Box and he/she can then use that to pick up his/her package. Be warned that the pickup process can be complicated.
• Often, processing is extremely slow and mail theft can be a problem. When he/she do receives a package, it will be subject to inspection by a customs officer who will apply a duty to your goods.
• Although rules are in place for how this should be done, bribes and excessive charges are a reported problem.
