Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant who would like to Apply for Motorcycle Driver License should contact the FDA office in Ghana. contact link
2. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and applicant can get their application form for Motorcycle Driver License.
3. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
4. Make all the necessary payments to obtain application forms and all other necessary documents.
5. Applicants are required to completely fill and submit form.
6. Attach all the documents to the forms before submission application to the authority.
7. The applicant should make sure that they are eligible for applying for driver license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
8. Please make sure that the applicant has all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
9. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees. Fees listed down the “Fees” section of this page.
10. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing the applicant’s application.
11. After completing all the process, the applicant is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor to turn in for a driver’s license.
12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 3 months.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be 18yrs and above to qualify to apply for a driver's license
• Basic education (BECE) or Adult Education , ability to read and write
• Applicant must had 48-hour training with a DVLA accredited driving school before applying for a driving license.
• A person who is at least 20 years old and possesses a Learners License can obtain a License for driving a commercial vehicle. Also, one has to be conversant with the traffic rules and regulations in all the cases.

Instructions

• Applicants needs to get the get the application form 1 and application form 2 for the non-commercial (non-transport) and citizens who need license for transport (commercial) have to get application form 1A and application form 2. Form 4 for obtaining the permanent Driver License.
• For obtaining a Driving License, the applicant must have a valid Learners License, and must apply after 30 days and within 180 days of issue of the Learners License. You should be conversant about vehicle systems, driving, and traffic rules regulations. You will be put through a driving test, for which you must bring a vehicle with you. On passing the test, you will be issued a Permanent Driving License.

Need for the Document

• A Driving License is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle or vehicles. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 in Ghana, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.

• All who apply for the DVLA driving license for the first time are required by the DVLA regulations to first apply for the learners driver license after which the actual driver license would be issued.
