Apply In-Person:

  1. The Mass Burial Permit is issued by the authorities in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Office Contact link
  2. The applicant must obtain the application form from the authorities in the AMA office.
  3. The application form must be filled with the necessary details.
  4. The filled application form must be submitted to the authorities in the AMA Office.
  5. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  6. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant form while submitting it at the office.
  7. The application is free of charge.
  8. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
  9. This application will be processed and the information will be verified by the AMA office.
  10. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
  11. After getting the notification from the concerned authorities, the applicant can visit the office to collect their document.
  12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 2 weeks.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A burial permit is an official statement authorising the removal of the dead body (corpse) to the cemetery.
  • One needs a burial permit in Ghana in order to bury/cremate a body in Ghana.
  • There is a No burial without permit in Ghana which states that; No person shall bury, cremate or otherwise dispose of the body of any deceased person the registration of whose death is compulsory, without a permit issued in accordance with sections 19 and 20 of this the Births And Deaths Registration Act.



Information which might helpEdit

  • Every person notifying a death shall, to the best of his knowledge and ability, give the prescribed particulars, which shall be entered by the registrar in the register of deaths.
  • The person notifying the death is to certify to the correctness of the entry by signing to the death register.
