Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Installation and Maintenance License from Energy Commission in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Electricity Commission office contact link
2. Applicants can obtain the application form from the Ghana Electricity Authority office.
3. Applicant must provide all the necessary information in the application form.
4. An applicant should submit a signed application letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Commission.
5. Applicants should fill and submit one original application form signed by a Principal Officer.
6. Applicants should attach receipt confirming the payment of prescribed license application fee.
7. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
8. Applicants should provide two (2) hard copies and a soft copy (if available) of the above exhibits as separate attachment, clearly labelled and all pages sequentially numbered.
9. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
10. The applicant should provide the receipt confirming the payment of the Initial License fee after the Commission has communicated the Outcome of its Decision on an application to the applicant.
11. The submitted details will be verified by respective receiving authority. If all the details and documents are in place, application will be accepted.
12. Applicant will get a receipt as acknowledgement for the submission of application.
13. This application will be processed by the respective department.
14. Applicant gets notification about the issuance.
15. After getting the notification from concerned authorities, applicant can visit the office to collect their license.
16. The processing time for this procedure takes 60 working days.

Required Documents

Copies of the following documents shall be enclosed

• Application form
• Certificate of Registration
• Certificate to Commence Business
• Copies of the applicant's financial arrangements to conduct electricity business as a business activity (e.g., guarantees, bank commitments, contractual arrangements, credit agreements, etc.).
• Two years of forecasted financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement)
• Evidence that the applicant has the capacity to comply with the license conditions, codes and guidelines relevant to its application
• Passport size picture (write your name and phone number behind picture)
• Original copy of pay-in slip to the form
• Proof of identity (citizen card/ driving license/ passport /if any)

Note: The fees are payable in Ghana Cedi at the rate of exchange on the date of payment.

Need for the Document

A relevant license/permit from energy department is required when a Ghanaian organization requires to operate and maintain pipelines used in Ghanaian energy Industry.

Information which might help

The license holder shall:

• Comply with the source of wood for the charcoal as indicated in the application.
• Provide the Commission with receipts of payment made for the feedstock used for the production of charcoal for every export.
• Submit to the Commission data on quantity of feedstock used for the production of charcoal for every export.
• Notify the Commission at least 3 working days before the start of every charcoal production;
• Use fabricated steel or improved kiln for production of charcoal.
• Comply with the Commission’s export quota and schedule.
• Comply with Forestry Commission and Environmental Protection Agency directives.
• Grant the Commission and relevant statutory bodies the right of access to inspect the facility.
