Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Commercial Driver Permit or License in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly (ABWMA) or Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority office (DVLA) contact link
2. Applicants approach the ABWMA or DVLA office and the applicant can get their application form for Commercial Driver permit or license.
3. Applicant has to enter all the information the application form.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and he/she can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Attach the following the documents to the forms before submission application to the authority
6. Applicant will also be provided with the Highway Code and syllabus for learner for study.
7. The Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
8. After submission of the forms the authority will proceed to an eye test for applicant.
9. An eye test is carried out.
10. When the applicant passes, a learners plate / license is issued to him / her.
11. The applicants then go to any recognized driving college, for training.
12. When a learner's license expires, a written exam is conducted for which driver must score 70% or more in order to pass.
13. After the written exam, the applicant takes on an In-Traffic Test which involves identification and explanation of several road signs.
14. If he / she passes the road signs test, the applicant then takes the last exam drive with a DVLA instructor, when the applicant committees no errors, he / she then qualifies for a cover note.
15. Then the applicant is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his / her cover note issued by the authority instructor.
16. The processing time for this procedure is 30 days.

  • Utility bills that have been issued in the applicant’s name
• Proof of Identity (any of the following)
