Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Chemical Sellers License in Ghana, the applicant must go to the Ada East District Assembly (AEDA) office contact link
2. Applicants should obtain the required application form from the Ada East District Assembly Office.
3. Applicant must be filled all the information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
5. A fee for this procedure is has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
6. A District Assembly may charge fees for any service or facility provided by that District Assembly or for any permit issued by or on behalf of the District Assembly subject to guidelines on fee charging prescribed by the Minister.
7. Completed application form must submit to the AEDA office.
8. The AEDA will dispatch an inspector to the facility premises for inspection to determine if Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Storage Practice (GSP) during the packing, processing, storage, labelling, sterilizing, testing, dispatch, quality control, and quality assurance of the products.
9. A copy of the report finding will be given to the applicant and if any modification or upgrading is required, Corrective Action and Preventive Action Report (CAPA) report will be issued and applicant will be required rectify the problem.
10. Upon successful implementation of the CAPA, a follow-up inspection may be conducted by the inspection team to ascertain the effectiveness of the implementation (where applicable).
11. If the Expert committee formed by the AEDA are satisfied that all the conditions are meet as required for the application, applicant will be notified of the outcome and issued with the license by the register/authorized official.
12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is 1 month.

• A seller his/her chemical shop in Ghana is eligible for get a license.

Validity

• Permits are valid for only 2 years. The applicant have to get it renewed once the license expires.

• The Ada East District, formerly Dangme East District and was created in 1989 by Local Government Instrument, L. I. 1491.  By subsection (one) of section 3 of the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462), a new district (Ada West) was carved out of Dangme East with a new Local Government Legal Instrument (L.I 2130) a new  district which was established and  known as Ada East in June, 2012 with twenty seven electoral areas.

Need for the Document

• The Act provides that the sale, resale, marketing, manufacture and related endeavors of drugs and cosmetics or chemicals in the country must be pursued by obtaining a chemical seller license.
• The purpose of the chemical seller license is to grant permission to allow enterprises or individuals to engage in businesses related to drugs and chemicals. No enterprise or individual can operate a business dealing in chemical, drugs, medicines or cosmetics without obtaining a drug license in Ghana.
