1. To Apply for Certificate of Insurance against Third Party Risks in Ghana, the applicant should contact the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office.

3. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and the, the applicant can get their application form.
4. Fill up the appropriate application form as described by the National Health Insurance Authority of Ghana.
5. Applicant must make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all documents are necessary for completing this procedure and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant from while submitting it at the office.
7. After filling the form and fit proper test questionnaire proceed to pay the prescribed fee and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
8. Submit the application form along with the documents to one of the counter.
9. After the application is verified and appropriate fees are paid, the certificate will be provided.
10. The processing time for this procedure is 1 day.

Eligibility

• Every motor vehicle operated on Ugandan roads must be insured against third Party Risks.

Fees

Varies greatly depending on the type of cover and the class in which the vehicle belongs.
Motor cycles:

• Own damage: 10 percent claim, minimum GHS 100,000
• Theft and total loss: 15 percent claim minimum 100,000 recommended rates 10percent
• Motor (private)
• Saloon, satiation wagon and pick-ups (private use only)
• Excess: own damage 10 percent claim, minimum GHS 100,000
• Theft and total loss: 15 percent of claim, minimum 100,000. Recommended rate 4percent.
• Buses (minibus/taxi, coaster $buses).
• PSV recommended rate 7.5 percent
• PMO/ corporate & school buses recommended rate 6 percent
• Special type; Ambulances, hearses, bullion vans, firefighting trucks, farm vehicles, motor recovery vehicles.
• Excess: own damages 10 percent of claim minimum GHS 200,000.
• Theft and total loss: 15 percent of claim minimum GHS 200,000 recommended rate 4 percent.

Validity

• This registration valid for a period of 1year.

Need for the Document

• The law requires all motor vehicles to be insured in Ghana, and the insurance is supposed to cover against financial loss, theft damages and third party liabilities.
• This is captured under insurance Act. Getting an insurance cover that meets the applicant’s specific requirement can be a difficult task.
