Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Aquaculture Establishment Approval Permit, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the MOFAD department.
4. The applicant must fill up the application form as directed and submit it to the concerned authorities.
5. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
7. The applicant must provide all the required documents to the authorities for validation and also pay the requisite application fees.
8. Submit the completed application form and pay the required application fee and submit the receipt as proof of payment.
9. Officers from the commissioner’s office will carry out inspections on the craft, fishing gear and other equipment to ensure that they comply with the required standards.
10. If everything is in order they will continue to process the applicants’ application.
11. After processing, the applicant will be issued with the Aquaculture Establishment Approval Permit.
12. A license or permit for Establishment Approval will be granted within 7 days.

• License Fee: GHS.100,000
• Renewal Fee: GHS.100,000

• The certificate is valid for one year.

Need for the Document

• The purpose is to Control development of aquaculture in environmentally sustainable manner.
• No person shall engage in fish breeding or shall export or import live fish for purposes of aquaculture without a permit issued by the Chief Fisheries Officer.
