Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Food Handler Certificate for Industrial Premises, the applicant has to approach the Food and Drugs Authority FDA office Contact link
  2. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
  3. Applicant must make sure to carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
  4. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant from while submitting it at the office.
  5. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  6. If all the above mentioned procedures were followed properly by the applicant, the application form will be viewed by concerned authorities and the applicant will be notified regarding their certificate.
  7. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the FDA.
  8. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
  9. After seeing this notification, the applicant can go to the FDA office and applicant can get their certificate.
  10. Certificate of registration will be issued within 30days.

  • Photo identity proof of the food business operators.
  • Business constitution certificate, i.e. partnership deed, certificate of incorporation, shop and establishment license or other business registration certificate.
  • Proof of possession of business/hospitality/industrial premises, i.e. rental agreement, NOC from the owner of the rented premises, utility bills etc.
  • Food safety management system plan.
  • List of food products manufactured or processed.
  • Bank account information.
  • Supporting documents (if required) like NOC by Municipality or, Health NOC, copy of License from the manufacturer, etc.

  • The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), formerly, Food and Drugs Board (FDB) is the regulatory authority with the responsibility of implementing the Food and Drugs Law of 1992, (PNDCL 305b). Part seven of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851 mandates the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to protect and promote public health by ensuring that food and drugs consumed in Ghana are wholesome and safe.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A safe food handling certificate is best described as an official document that demonstrates to health inspectors that the applicants have undertaken a food handler training course approved by his/her state and that the applicant’s knowledgeable about food safety.

  • Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Veterinary Services Directorate (VSD) by Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) requires that all Slaughter house facility be registered with the FDA and obtain a licenses after meeting the acceptable standards Practice in the facility as set by the FDA, before commencing operation.
  • This is to ensure the safety and quality of meat for human and animal consumption in Ghana as the Codes of Practices
