ProcedureEdit

  • Apply for the Motorcycle Instructional Permit at any CSC location.
  • Applicants must submit documents that shows their identity, residential address, full social security number, and U.S. citizenship or proof of lawful presence in the United States.
  • Applicants will be asked to surrender any out of state driver's license/permit/ID card issued to them.
  • If the applicant previously was issued a driver's license/permit/ID card in another state, and that card has been lost or stolen, the applicant must provide a certified copy of his or her driving record or motor vehicle report from the state that issued the card. The MVR must be dated within the last 30 days. The DDS does not accept uncertified copies printed from websites, but a fax may be sent to the DDS directly from the other state agency.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 are required to have a parent/guardian, responsible adult or authorized Driver Training Instructor to sign the application for the driver's license. Responsible adult only applies to emancipated applicants with court ordered documentation. The signatories also have the authority to request the driver's license to be revoked at any time before the minors 18th birthday.
  • If under age 18 a Certificate of Attendance (DS-1) must be dated within the last 30 days or High School Diploma or GED, is required.
  • If under 18 an ADAP or eADAP certificate of completion is required.
  • If under 18 and if Parent Teen Driving Guide was used to satisfy the 'Behind The Wheel' requirement, the session checklists, signed 40 hour Driving Log, and the Parent/Teen Driving Agreement are required.

  • SSA Print-out containing office stamp and SSA employee signature as well as Applicant's name & SSN
  • 1-797C with Applicants name, demographic info & SSN - For Non-Citizens only
  • Federal / State Tax Return with Applicants name & SSN (also acceptable for proof of SSN for Dependents)
  • Medicare / Medicaid card with Applicants name & SSN

Proof of Residential Address (You must present 2 of the following unless otherwise noted):

  • Utility bill issued within the last sixty (60) days for services installed at your residential address (ex. water, sewer, gas, electricity, cable/satellite TV, internet, telephone/cell phone, or garbage collection)
  • Financial statement for bank/credit union account, investment account, credit card account, or loan/credit financing issued within the last sixty (60) days
  • Current, valid rental contract/agreement and/or rent payment receipts issued within the last sixty (60) days (includes rental agreement/leases for a home, apartment, mobile home, dorm, extended stay motel, retirement/assisted living home, and letter from a shelter)
  • Employer verification, including, but not limited to, one of the following: Paycheck or paycheck stub
    • Letter from your employer on company letterhead
    • W-2 for current or preceding calendar year
    • Military orders

EligibilityEdit

  • To apply, must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Applicants under 17 years of age must successfully complete a certified 30 hour Georgia Driver Training/Driver Education Course.
  • Applicants under 17 years of age must successfully complete a certified Georgia Behind the Wheel Program.

InstructionsEdit

To obtain an Instructional Permit, applicants must pass the Vision and Motorcycle Knowledge Exam.


Vision Exam

Your eyes will be tested by means of a mechanical device. The minimum acceptable vision is 20/60 in one eye, with or without corrective lenses, and a field of vision of, at least, 140 degrees. Upon failure of the field vision exam the applicant will be required to have a DS-274 completed by a licensed practitioner.


Knowledge Exam

The Knowledge Exam consists of two tests the Road Rules Test and the Road Signs Test. The applicant must pass each test. To pass the exam applicants must get a minimum of 15 out of 20 correct answers, on each test.

Conditions/Restrictions imposed on the Motorcycle Instructional Permit (Class MP):

  1. You may operate a motorcycle in daylight hours only.
  2. You are not allowed to carry passengers.
  3. You may not drive on limited access roadways.
  4. You must wear safety equipment as prescribed by law.


Notes:

  1. It is not mandatory for a Class M applicant to obtain a Class MP instructional permit before taking the Class M exam. However, anyone applying for a Class M driver's license must pass the knowledge exam as well as the skills test before a Class M license can be issued.
  2. Road test reservations are currently available only to those applicants who hold a Class MP.
  3. Test scores are valid for 2 years.
