France - Replace Your National Identity Card In Case of Theft (Minor)

ProcedureEdit

  1. The minor's representative must obtain a form to apply for replacement of the national identity card from the counter.
  2. Fill in and sign the form.
  3. Submit the application along with all other required documents.
  4. You can follow up the status of the application by using the teleservice monitoring application. Or the minor's representative may indicate in the application form that they would like to receive an SMS when the card is ready to be picked up at the town hall. Note: These monitoring tools and alerts do not exist in Paris or French territories overseas.
  5. The new card must be collected within 3 months after it was ready to be picked up. Uncollected cards within this period will be destroyed, and you will have to apply again.

Required DocumentsEdit

If the minor possess a secured document (even if it is no longer valid) there's no need to provide once again documents related to the minor's civil status or French nationality.


If the minor have a secure passport:

  • Completely filled in and signed application form.
  • Two passport photos that comply with the standards.
  • Proof of address : the original and a photocopy
  • ID of the parent filing the application: the original and a photocopy
  • Theft Report
  • 25 in tax stamp
  • Child's passport: the original and a photocopy


If the minor DO NOT have a secure passport, and if the stolen card was recent (valid or expired for less than 2 years):

  • Completely filled in and signed application form.
  • Two passport photos that comply with the standards.
  • Proof of address : the original and a photocopy
  • ID of the parent filing the application: the original and a photocopy
  • Theft Report
  • 25 in tax stamp


If the minor DO NOT have a secure passport, and if the stolen card had expired for more than 2 years:

  • Completely filled in and signed application form.
  • Two passport photos that comply with the standards.
  • Proof of address : the original and a photocopy
  • ID of the parent filing the application: the original and a photocopy
  • Theft Report
  • 25 in tax stamp
  • Original Copy of the Birth certificate not older than 3 months (extracted with filiation or integral copy)


Note: If you want the child to use a double name, other documents will be required to be presented to justify the use of the name of the other parent.

Processing TimeEdit

Identity cards are not made at the same office where you applied therefore it can not be issued immediately. The amount of time it needs to process an application varies depending on the place and time the request was made, for example, applications submitted before the start of summer vacation may take longer to be completed compare to those submitted after.

InstructionsEdit

If the national identity card of the minor was stolen, a declaration must be made regarding the incident. Documents to be submitted vary depending on the age of the stolen card and possession of a secure passport.


Filing a Theft Report:

  • If the card was stolen in France: the declaration will be filed at the police or gendarmerie.
  • If the card was stolen abroad : the declaration will be filed at the local police authorities and the Consulate of France.

A receipt will be issued, as proof that a declaration has been made.


To replace the stolen national ID card, the child's legal representative must gather all necessary documents and personally apply at the local town hall, at the police station if the minor lives in Paris or at a French Embassy or Consulate if the minor lives abroad.

The minor must be present during the application process, and must be accompanied by a person with parental responsibility (parent or guardian) who will be required to present their own identification at the counter.

Need for the DocumentEdit
