France - Obtain a Family Record Book(livret de famille)

It's a French document, given to a couple when they marry (family record book).You can get one if you’re a French citizen, no matter where you got married. If married abroad, you will get one only if you got your foreign marriage certificate transcripted by the French embassy of the country where you are. It is used to record births, deaths etc in your immediate family.

A family Record Book(livret de famille) is a civil registry used in many France to track information of a genealogical or legal interest.
The livret de famille generally contains the marriage certificate of the couple and the birth certificates of their children, as well as a certificate of divorce if one exists.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
The Livret de Famille is given to a couple when they get married in France and all the subsequent children are registered in it. Which is why you're asked for it, as well as birth certificates, vaccination certificates, etc... when you first register them at school (at the Mairie for Maternelle and Primaire).
