France - Obtain a Civil Union Contract (Pacte civil de solidarité - PACS)

ProcedureEdit

To register your PACS:

  1. Future partners must write and sign an agreement (PACS). The document can also be written by a notary. The convention must be written in French and include the signature of both partners.
  2. To register a Civil Union Contract (Pacte civil de solidarité - PACS) go to your local town hall and approach the civil service officer.
  3. Present your completed Pacte civil de solidarité - PACS, and your identity document.
  4. The civil officer will record your documents. Note: The office does not keep a copy of your PACS. It will be returned to you after registration.


In case lost of PACS

In case of loss of the original of the PACS agreement, the registrar can issue you a duplicate of the registration receipt, on production of a piece of identification.

  • PACS Convention (Customized Agreement or completed form cerfa No. 15726 * 02)
  • Joint declaration of a civil pact of solidarity (Pacs) and certificates on the honor of non-kin, non-alliance and common residence cerfa form No. 15725 * 02
  • Birth certificate (full copy or extract with parentage) of less than 3 months for the French partner or less than 6 months for the foreign partner born abroad;
  • Valid identification (one original, one photocopy)

EligibilityEdit

Applicants must be:

  • of age (the foreign partner must be the age of majority fixed by his country),
  • must be legally capable (a major under curatorship or guardianship can be pacser under conditions),
  • must not be already married or pacsés,
  • must not have direct family links with each other.

FeesEdit

You do not need to pay to have your PACS registered.
