Procedure

1. Go to a police department to apply for a trade permit for firearm dealing.
2. Present a proof of identity (passport or ID), reasons or purpose of the application (in writing) and other application-specific appendices.
3. Complete an application form.
4. Pay the fee.

• passport or ID card (proof of identity)
• reasons for seeking the license (in writing) and other necessary documents supporting the application
• military passport, certificate of non-military service, call-up certificate or other certificate that the person is exempt from military service

Eligibility

The applicant must be aged 18 and above. He or she must be considered fit in accordance to his or her health.

Need for the Document

Trade permits for firearms dealing are granted by the Firearms Administration of the National Police Board.

As of March 1, 2002, a permit has also been required for the commercial shooting ranges and trainings in the use of firearms or gas sprays.

The Firearms Administration also issues weapons collector approvals and permits for commercial import, export and transit of firearms, and firearms transfers into and out of Finland.
