Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The Business Name Registration must be made in the Registrar of Companies Fiji. Contacts
2. After deciding the Name for the business, the applicant must visit the nearest office of Registrar of Companies.
3. The applicant must obtain the Business Name Registration Form from the authorities in the Registrar office.
4. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The application must be filled with the necessary details.
6. The prescribed fee must paid along with the application form.
7. The filled application form must be submitted to the officials in the Fiji’s Registrar of Companies.
8. The authorities in the Registrar office will verify the application form.
9. If there is no other business registered with the same name, then the application will be approved by the officials.
10. The applicants Business Name will be registered thereafter the approval.
11. Finally, the applicant will be issued with the Certificate of Registration of a Business Name.

1. The Business Name registration can also be made online in Digital Fiji Online Portal
2. First, you have to enter your Entity name. (Business Name)
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section.
4. Further, you have to fill the application form with the necessary information.
5. The authorities in the Registrar office will verify the application form.
6. If there is no other business registered with the same name, then the application will be approved by the officials.
7. The applicants Business Name will be registered thereafter the approval.
8. Finally, the applicant will be issued with the Certificate of Registration of a Business Name.

• TIN card / TIN letter of all individuals listed in the application

Validity

The Registered name is valid forever. Unless, the business acts contrary to the laws of the country.

Processing Time

• To register a Business Name, the office in Suva will take 3 to 5 working days.
• While, the Western and Northern Division office will take maximum 4 weeks to process the application.
• Un-due delays can occur due to computer technical problems, since new business names have to be compared with the existing ones using the computer. Delays can also result from applicants submitting incomplete requirements.

Instructions

• Endeavor to register business name before validity of reserved name expires.
• Ensure that the name chosen is simple and easy to pronounce.
• The name cannot have "Fiji" as part of the name.
• A business name to be registered should not be similar to a name of any other business / company.
• The chosen name should not be against the copyright laws, trademarks or intellectual property considered in Fiji.
• It is advisable that the Declaration of Due Compliance be sworn by a lawyer engaged in business formulation. The director or secretary can be used as last resort.

• Proposed Business name.
• Date on which business commenced or intends to commence business under the proposed business name.
• Existing business names held by the applicant.
• Details of applicant, Nationality.
• Company Name.
• Company Number (if incorporated in Fiji)
• County of Incorporation
• Principal Place of Business (street address)
• Description of business.
• Foreign investment declarations.

• Business Name Registration is very important, since it is a pre-requisite for the issuance of license.
• Registration of the business name secures its unique identity in Fiji and gives it rights a as a legal person.
  

Information which might help

• Please note made up words/initial/abbreviation/nicknames/slangs/other family member’s name/middle name is unacceptable for business name.

The Registered Business Name is required when registering for a TIN number and in opening any type of business account.
