Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Seamen Employment Record Book, the applicant must visit the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF). Contact Link
2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities in the MSAF office, or else it can be downloaded from the website. Application Form
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form should be filled with necessary details, and along with the required documents it should be sent via post to “The Registrar of Seaman” in MSAF.
5. The registrar will verify the application and the employment record book will be issued to the applicant.
6. The fee for the Seamen Employment Record Book is given below in the “Fees” section of this page.
7. The processing time for this procedure will be intimated by the authorities in the MSAF office.

• A valid Medical Fitness Certificate issued by the MSAF approved Medical Practitioner.
• A copy of Birth Certificate.

Eligibility

The applicant should be appointed as Seaman in the MSAF, and they are eligible to apply withing 7 days of being employed by Seaman.

Fees

• Application Fee - $35.55
• Replacement Fee - $56.10
  

Validity

The Seamans’ Employment Record Book is valid until the applicant serve as a Seaman in the MSAF.

Need for the Document

According to the Maritime (STCW Convention) Regulation 2014, a seaman must be registered and a Seaman Employment Record Book should be applied within 7 days of becoming employed by a seaman.
