Procedure[edit]


Permanent Residence Permits are granted to non-citizens who considers his or her home to be in the Fiji Islands and whose presence in Fiji will be beneficial to the interests of the Fiji Islands or to a citizen or citizens of the Fiji Islands.

Step 1 : Make the application

  • You have to start the application process by visiting the department of immigration offices in Fiji or the Fiji Consulate, if abroad to make the application.
  • You are required to complete the application for a Permit to Reside form.
  • The completed and signed applications for the permanent residence permit must be accompanied by the following documents:
  1. Formal Request Letter by principal applicant
  2. 2 certified passport sized photos
  3. Copy of Passport (Bio-Data)
  4. Copy of Birth & Marriage Certificate or Kinship Certificate
  5. Fiji birth certificate if applicable.
  6. Police Report (18yrs+)
  7. Medical Report
  8. Certified copy of previous residence Permit
  9. Latest Offshore Bank Statement.( if applicable)
  10. Retirement Scheme Statement (if applicable)
  11. Application fees: $452.00 (Issue & Bond fees to be paid upon approval)

Step 2: Submit the application

  • Submit the application in-person to the department of immigration offices in Fiji or the Fiji Consulate if abroad to make the application; or send the application with all the documents and fees to:

Step 3: Approval of application and collection of residence permit

  • The Fiji Immigration Department will review the application and upon satisfaction will approve the application.
  • The permanent resident will be ready after 3 working days. The applicant will be notified on the day of collection and should collect the permit in-person.

Eligibility[edit]

  • Families of Exempted Persons
  • Former Fiji Citizens
  • Eligibility requirements for Resident Permits on assured income
  • The principal applicant should have an assured income and should not seek employment in the Fiji Islands;
  • The principal applicant must carry health insurance;
  • The principal applicant must deposit a sum of $ 100,000,00 in a resident account of a local bank upon approval of the application;
  • If the principal applicant has purchased a property in the Fiji Islands, the sum of F$100,000.00 may be waived, however, documentary proof of the purchase and value of property is required;
  • An additional F$30,000.00 for a family of two (2) or F$40,000.00 for a family of up to five (5) members must be deposited annually in the resident account of a local bank; and
  • The permit holder must obtain clearance from the Immigration Department for any repatriation of funds out of the country before the application is considered by the Reserve Bank of Fiji.

Validity[edit]

Permanent resident status can be lost if the following occurs:

  • When a permanent resident fails to comply with Fijian residency laws, rules and regulations;
  • When a Fijian permanent resident acquires Fijian citizenship;
  • Cancelled upon request by the holder;
  • If proved that status was issued falsely it can be cancelled;
  • Upon receiving a removal court order

Instructions[edit]

  • The issuance of permanent residence permit is handled by Department of immigration. One starts the application process by visiting the department of immigration offices in Fiji or the Fiji Consulate if abroad.

The Instructions to completing the application for a permit to reside form are as follows :

  • The form must be completed fully. Your application will be considered on the basis of the information submitted at the time of lodgement.
  • One form should be completed by each applicant. However, where a family is applying for permits at the same time as the principal applicant, the other spouse and their children under 21 years of age may be included on the same form. The only occasion where children under 21 years complete a separate form is when they enter the Fiji Islands separately from the family and their permits were not applied for at the same time.
  • Where proof of qualifications and financial status are required, attested copies may be submitted but the Department reserves the right to call for original documents.
  • Application fee, which is not refundable, must accompany the application either in a bank draft/or cash in Fiji currency.
  • Dates should be shown in the form: Day/Month/Year, e.g. 28/09/2001.
  • Copies of marriage certificate (if appropriate) should be attached with all children’s’ birth certificates, if permits are required for them. The department reserves the right to request for original documents.
  • Police Reports in respect of the applicant and his/her spouse from their countries of citizenship or residency must be submitted, if they have lived there for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
  • Medical reports, which are less than 3 months old, must be submitted by the applicant and members of his/her family who are applying for permits. The Department’s medical report form must be used for this purpose.
  • Pay the required application fees of

  • Permanent Residence Permits are granted to non-citizens who considers his or her home to be in the Fiji Islands and whose presence in Fiji will be beneficial to the interests of the Fiji Islands or to a citizen or citizens of the Fiji Islands.

Information which might help[edit]

  • The residence permit on assured income may be issued to a person who has assets outside the Fiji Islands at his/her disposal of an amount sufficient to ensure that he/she will not become a charge on public funds whilst residing in Fiji. The authority to issue this residency is under Section 9 (2) (b) of the Immigration Act 2003.
  • Co-extensive Permit means a permit granted under Section 9(2) (b) of the Immigration Act, 2003 that allows dependents of permit holders to enter and reside with the principal applicant in the country. “Dependent” in this context refers to conventional nuclear family that consists of husband and wife or father, mother and children.
  • Special Purpose Permit granted under this category means a permit granted to a person that needs to enter and reside with his/her family member that is legally in Fiji in view of their dependence on each other.
