Fiji - Apply for Emergency Travel Document

Apply In-Person:
- To get the Emergency Travel Document, the applicant must contact the Fiji Embassy, High commission or Consulate. Contacts Link
- The application form for the Emergency Travel Document will be issued to the applicant in the Fiji Embassy, or High Commission, or Consulate.
- The applicant must make appointment at least three days before the confirmed date of flight/travel.
- After making appointment, the applicant must visit the respective office on the appointment date.
- The officials at the embassy will interview regarding the emergency travel details.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The embassy or consulate staff will check whether the applicant is eligible for an emergency travel document.
- If the applicant is not eligible, the embassy will state the reason for rejection of the Emergency Travel Document.
- If the applicant wants to leave Fiji on an Emergency Travel Document, they must visit the Fiji Immigration department to complete the exit formalities.
- The fee for this procedure is given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The applicant may get the document on the day of filing the application, if the circumstances are straightforward.
- If there is any complex situation in the application, the processing time will take about 1 week - 2 weeks. (This may force you to change to change your travel plans.)

- The completed emergency travel document application form.
- Passport size photo (Recent Photo)
- Proof of your travel plans. E.g. confirmed flight booking/ticket or detailed written travel plans if you can’t book ahead.
- Two (2) passport size photos
- Proof of Fiji citizenship i.e. Fiji Passport or National Identity Card.
- Police Report if passport is lost or stolen.

EligibilityEdit
- Emergency travel document is issued to a citizen of Fiji who are traveling on an emergency journey and does not fulfill the normal requirements of getting a passport.
- This document is also given to a person who is stranded abroad and cannot get a passport or being deported back home.
- If the applicant lost a passport in a foreign land.
FeesEdit
- One-way emergency travel document is issued at a cost $160.
- The applicant will have to pay a fee in local currency, equivalent to $190. (This fee is subject to change at any time.)
ValidityEdit
The emergency travel document will only be valid for the journey that the applicant specified while applying and for a specific period of time. (This will be shown on the document)

- An emergency travel document doesn’t guarantee entry to every country. The applicant may also need a visa.
- The applicant must need to check with the embassy or consulate of the country or countries that they are intending to travel to or through.

The emergency travel document can also cover a return journey if the applicant is a resident of the that they are applying from.

- The Emergency Travel document is issued based on criteria such as:
- Severe financial loss to company or individual may require you to have an emergency travel document.
- Extreme emergent situation.
- Humanitarian situation.
- Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests.
- Department of Defense or National Interest Situation. (Note: Request must come from official Fiji Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to the Government.)
- Revocation of a Passport and Travel Document:
- The Principal Commissioner of department of Immigration Services at any time may revoke the passport or travel document granted or issued to the holder where:
- The holder of a passport permits another person to use his/her passport.
- The holder of a passport has been deported or repatriated to the United Republic of Tanzania at the expense of the Government.
- The holder has ceased to be a citizen of Fiji.
- The holder engages in illicit drug trafficking, money laundering, migrant trafficking, terrorism acts or any other illegal transaction.
- It is in the national interests or national security.
- The existing Fiji passport will be cancelled in most cases.
- Immigration authorities may keep your emergency travel document when the applicant arrives at the destination.
