Need for the DocumentEdit
Asylum Visa is a form of protection which allows an individual to remain in the Fiji Island instead of being removed (deported) to a country where they fear persecution or harm.
Information which might helpEdit
- A lot of people wonder what asylum is and why people make so many efforts to seek asylum facilities. Well, in simple terms, asylum is a place for refuge and safety meant for those who need a promise that they will be protected when their own country poses a threat to their life.
- Asylum visa, issued to people who have suffered or reasonably fear persecution in their own country due to their political activities or opinion, or features, or association with a social group.
- Asylum seekers or emigrants who have escaped war or repression and have unlawfully crossed into another state.
- If they are recognized as "legitimate" asylees by the destination state, they will then gain status and receive Asylum Visa.
- However, there may be numerous potential asylums in a destination state who are unwilling to apply or have been denied asylum status, and hence are categorized as "illegal immigrants" and may be subject to punishment or deportation.
- A person who is granted political asylum may remain in Fiji indefinitely and may apply for permanent residence after three years.
- Dependents above eighteen (18) years can apply independently Permanent Residence.
- Fear for life is one of the elements, the Fiji Government considers for a refugee to claim protection outside the country for domicile.
