Ethiopia - Obtain a Business Visa

Introduction

Visa is a form of permission or a pass for a non-citizen to enter transit or remain in a particular country. A Business visa is one that people who want to visit a certain country for certain kinds of business and other related business travel apply for. In Ethiopia a visa is a stamp or form placed in your passport when you enter, and sometimes when you leave Ethiopia.

Instructions

  • Review instructions based on the purpose of journey to Ethiopia
  • Complete, print and sign all visa application forms, including Travisa's Global Service Order Form
  • Make all necessary payments
  • Attach all the required documents and
  • Send all of the visa application requirements listed to the immigration office in Ethiopia, or to Travisa / embassies / consulates in different countries.

Procedure

Step 1 Get a valid passport. It must be an original, signed passport valid for at least 6 months beyond stay in Ethiopia with at least one blank visa page available on which the visa shall be stamped;

  • Get an original Ethiopian Visa Application Form, Accurately fill it and sign and make a copy of the fully filled and signed form;
  • Fill the Global Service Order Form: This is Travisa's service order form, where one provides his / her contact and travel information, chooses the visa processing needed and make your payment. This is done by visiting https://orders.travisa.com/mod-cgi/jmcustomerlogin.cgi and follow the steps that appear to fill the form and submit. (The completely filled form is printed completed form and sent to Travisa with all other supporting documents).
  • Attach all the required documents:
    • One recent 2 x 2 passport photograph (coloured, front view and with a plain/white background); or one can upload a passport photo to the Global Service Order Form when he /she places his / her order, instead of providing physical passport photos.

A Letter of Invitation from Ethiopia: This is a letter from sponsor / host company in Ethiopia explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel to Ethiopia. The letter must indicate the length of stay, place of stay, and host’s contact information.

A Business Letter: it is a letter from employer or sponsoring company, on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant's employment status / position held in the company, and clearly stating the purpose of visit to Ethiopia. It also indicates who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Ethiopia.

An Ethiopian Business Cover Letter can also be generated on on-line, fill out a Business Letter Form and print the completed letter on your company letterhead.

To do so, visit https://orders.travisa.com/BusinessLetter/Ethiopia and fill the form and submit. After the form has been submitted, the PDF form should be printed on company letterhead and then signed by an authorized person.

  • Proof of Departure; a computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or travel agency or copy of airline tickets; and
  • International Certificate of Vaccination.
  • Submit your application to the immigration office in Ethiopia, or to embassies / consulates in different countries.

  • A Valid Passport for at least six months. (Passport must be signed.)

Fees

The fees for obtaining a business visa vary basing where you are applying from and on type you are applying for.

  • In Ethiopia, a Regular Business Visa is obtained at $70, Rush Business Visa at $99 and Emergency Business Visa at $159.
  • US citizens are likely to pay Consular fee of $100 and Service fee of $49 totaling to approximately $149.
  • In Los Angeles, New York and Washington, obtaining a Single / Multiple Business Visa goes for $75

Validity

  • The validity of a Business Visa is based on the consulate's discretion; usually 2 years are given.
  • One must enter Ethiopia within NINETY (90) days of issuance of the visa. Usually
  • One can on the other hand stay only as permitted by custom/immigration official, usually, up to 30 days at a time.

Processing Time

  • If all the necessary requirements are fulfilled, a business visas in Ethiopia can be issued on the next two or three business day but is usually processed in 8 business days, though Rush or Emergency visa service may be available for additional fees.
  • Processing time for US Citizens may go to up to 5 days
  • In Los Angeles, New York and Washington, processing tine for obtaining a Single / Multiple Business Visa takes 3 to 5 days.

Information which might help

A visa in your passport does not guarantee entry. That remains the right of the immigration officials in Ethiopia; Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Ethiopia visas;

If you need to stay longer that the given time, he / she needs to ask border official upon arrival to Ethiopia;

A business letter should be typed on company letterhead.

If available, include the names and addresses of any contacts in the country for which the visa is being requested and it is important to note that the address to which the letter is addressed varies depending on where the applicant is it can be to the immigration office, Embassies or Consulates.
