Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. The application form for getting a passport is available in the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia contact link
2. Applicant should fill-in all the necessary details in the application form.
3. Applicant should make sure to carry all the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and Originals).
4. Applicant must attach the photocopies of the documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
5. The fee must be paid as per the authority’s request while submitting the form.

7. If the applicant follows all the above-mentioned procedures properly, then, the passport will be issued within two weeks.
8. If the passport was not issued within a month, then, the applicant can visit the office for getting information on their application.
   

Apply Online

1. The application for getting a passport is available in the following application link.
2. Applicant should click on “Start New Application” button for new application.
3. Applicant must click on “I agree to terms and conditions” tab and then click on “Start Individual Appointment”.
4. On the following page, click on “New Passport Appointment”.
5. Applicant should fill-in all the necessary details in the application form and then click on “Next” button.
6. After this, the following page consists of a date to schedule an appointment, applicant has to choose a convenient date for their appointment and then click on “Next”.
7. The next page requests for personal information of the applicant, the applicant must provide all information that is requested in that page.
8. Applicant should upload the digital copies of the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
9. After this procedure, applicant must click on “Submit” button.
10. The fee can be paid online after submitting the application form.
11. If all the above-mentioned procedures were followed by the applicant properly, then, the applicant will have to visit the office on the scheduled date for getting their passport.

• Four recent passport-sized color photographs.
• Two copies of documents certifying the parent(s) Ethiopian citizenship/
• A copy of the child’s birth certificate.
• Proof of payment of application processing fees.

Due to the amount of time it takes to process an application, it is recommend that you submit your application at least two months prior to your date of travel or prior to applying for any other service that requires a valid passport.
