Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for resident permit, applicant has to approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. contact link1 or the applicant contact Immigration Nationality and Vital Event Agency in Ethiopia contact link2
2. Obtain the application form from the respective authority.
3. Complete the application form with necessary details.
4. Make sure you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Submit the application form along with the documents to the concerned officer.
6. The address is mentioned in the office locations & contacts section below.
7. Now the authorities will verify your application and validate the submitted documents.
8. After verification process, authority will issue the residence permit to the applicant.
   

Apply Online:

1. To apply for residence permit through online, click the following link
2. Select the resident Id and select the type of resident id that the applicant needs to apply.
3. Enter the visa details and click on the check box “I’m not a robot” and then click on “Continue”.
4. Next tab asks for personal information of the applicant which are to be entered and then the customer has to click on “Next” button.
5. Applicant has to upload digital copies of documents (whichever is necessary) that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Finally review documents and click on “Submit” button.
7. Payment for this procedure can be paid online.
8. If all above-mentioned procedures were followed properly by the applicant, resident id will be provided within a month by visiting the office.
9. The applicant should carry the necessary documents with them while collecting the resident id.

Eligibility

The applicant should be:

• Is not less that thirty-five years (35) of age;
• Has in his own right and at his full and free disposition an assured annual income of not less than USD 24,000.
• Undertakes not to accept employment, paid or unpaid, or engage in any income generating activity of any kind without a permit of the relevant class
  

Fees

Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority request.

Validity

Valid for the period of one year.

Need for the Document

This permit is issued to a person who is not less than thirty-five years (35) of age; and has in his own right and at his full and free disposition an assured annual income of not less than USD 24,000 amount that is derived from sources other than any such employment, occupation, trade, business or profession and being an income that either; is derived from sources outside, and will be remitted to Ethiopia or is derived from pension or annuity payable from, sources in Ethiopia.
