Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for Refugee visa, applicant has to approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. contact link1 or the applicant contact Immigration Nationality and Vital Event Agency in Ethiopia contact link2
2. Obtain the application form from the respective authority.
3. Complete the application form with necessary details.
4. Make sure you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Submit the application form along with the documents to the concerned officer.
6. The address is mentioned in the office locations & contacts section below.
7. Now the authorities will verify your application and validate the submitted documents.
8. After verification process, authority will issue the Refugee visa to the applicant.

• A recent passport size digital photo (in color)

Eligibility

A person who has entered/ fled into Ethiopia owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, sex, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion and is unable or owing to such fear, unwilling to avail himself of the protection of his/her own country.

Fees

Fee for this procedure is free of cost.

Validity

The validity of refugee visa is for five years.

Need for the Document

• This document gives the refugee recognition in the host country thus making them be able to access humanitarian services.
• The document officially recognises the presence of the refugee in Ethiopia and mandates the Ethiopian Government to offer them protection against forcible return to their country of origin where they may face persecution.
• The refugee visa also serves as an Identification document
