- To Apply for Mining or Mineral License, the applicant has to approach the FDRE Ministry of Mines link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- The officer will conduct a site inspection to verify the information provided in the application and assess the environmental impact of the mining operation.
- If your application is approved, you will be issued a mining or mineral license. The type of license and its conditions will depend on the nature of your activities.
- Once you have the license, ensure that you comply with all regulations, environmental standards, and reporting requirements. Failure to do so may result in license suspension or revocation.
- This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

To be eligible to apply for a mining or mineral license in Ethiopia, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a legal entity registered in Ethiopia.
- Have a minimum paid-up capital of 100,000 USD for a wholly owned foreign investment, or 50,000 USD for a joint venture with a local Ethiopian company.
- Submit a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment for the proposed mining project.
- Have the technical and financial capacity to carry out the mining project.
- Be able to comply with all applicable Ethiopian laws and regulations.
