Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Gold Mining License, the applicant has to approach the FDRE Ministry of Mines link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  10. The officer will conduct a site inspection to verify the information provided in the application and assess the environmental impact of the mining operation.
  11. If your application is approved, you will be issued a gold mining license. The license will outline the terms and conditions under which you can conduct your mining operations.
  12. Ensure that you comply with all regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and reporting obligations outlined in your gold mining license.
  13. Begin your gold mining operations in accordance with the terms of your license. Implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms as required by the regulatory authority.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible to apply for a gold mining license in Ethiopia, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a legal entity registered in Ethiopia.
  • Have a minimum paid-up capital of 100,000 USD for a wholly owned foreign investment, or 50,000 USD for a joint venture with a local Ethiopian company.
  • Submit a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment for the proposed mining project.
  • Have the technical and financial capacity to carry out the mining project.
  • Be able to comply with all applicable Ethiopian laws and regulations.
  • Have a valid prospecting license or exploration license for the area in which you want to apply for a gold mining license.
