Apply In-Person:

  1. Application for Accreditation of Journalists in Ethiopia is done in Ethiopian Communications Authority Contact link
  2. Applicant should make sure to enter all information in the application form.
  3. Documents that are needed for this procedure depend upon the media that the journalist is working for.
  4. Information about necessary documents for this procedure is listed under “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Applicant should make sure to carry photocopies and originals of the documents that are required for the procedure to complete.
  6. Applicant must attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
  7. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  8. If all the above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, applicant can get accreditation within a month by visiting the office.

  • Any Ethiopian Citizen who is above 18 years of age is eligible.
  • Non-Ethiopians must submit a proof that confirms their right to work as a journalist by submitting an authentic press ID from the relevant issuing authorities.

InstructionsEdit

  • While renewing an existing accreditation, applicant must provide a specific report that provides details which covers the activities of the Journalist and will help the African Union for considering the renewal application.
  • Accreditation will be given only after thorough check on the track report provided by the applicant.

  • Accreditation is necessary for both freelance journalists and other journalists who work for a particular media company.
  • Accreditation acts as a proof for journalists for the work they do.


Information which might helpEdit

Additional information to be provided by the journalists depends upon the type of media in which the journalist works:

  • For Radio and Television recordings of 6 reports broadcast within last 12 months.
  • For Print Media articles that are published within last 12 months.
  • For Photographs 6 original tear sheets and photos with credits of issuing organization.
  • For Independent Broadcast or Film Companies, a letter from the broadcasting organization or film distribution firms us necessary.
