Estonia - Apply for Mobile ID
ProcedureEdit
- To apply for a mobile-ID, a mobile-ID capable SIM card is needed.
- To obtain a SIM-card, a subscription agreement with a mobile service provider (EMT, Elisa or Tele2) should be made. To use the service, mobile-ID should be activated after making the agreement and obtaining the special SIM card.
- The ID-card software can be downloaded from: https://installer.id.ee/
- For opening the mobile-ID application in PDF format please use the Adobe Reader software. The software can be downloaded from: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Note:
- A mobile-ID cannot be applied via a representative.
- People who use mobile-ID issued prior to 01.02.2011 and wish to get the state guaranteed mobile-ID should turn to their operator for new mobile-ID contract forming and SIM card replacement.
- If your personal data has changed, please revoke certificates of your mobile-ID and turn to your mobile operator for new mobile-ID contract forming and SIM card replacement.
- State guaranteed mobile-ID certificates can be applied only electronically.

Technical requirements for mobile-ID
Web browsers and ID card software that are compatible with mobile-ID:
In Windows environment:
- Internet Explorer from version 8 and ID-card software from version 3.4
- Mozilla Firefox from versioon 4 and ID-card software from version 3.4
MacOS X users please use Mozilla Firefox browser from version 4 to enter mobile-ID application environment.
In Linux it is recommended to use the same pair of browser and ID-card software you are using to access the services by means of ID-card.

FeesEdit
- State fee for the mobile-ID certificates is 7 Euros. The fee is charged by the mobile service provider. Get yourself acquainted with the mobile-ID service pricelist of your mobile service provider.
ValidityEdit
The mobile-ID certificates are valid for 3 years.
All mobile-ID certificates issued prior to 01.02.2011 are valid till the expiry date and their renovation is needed only if the user wishes to get the state guaranteed mobile-ID.

Need for the DocumentEdit
Mobile-ID is service that allows a client to use a mobile phone as a form of secure electronic ID.
Like the ID Card, it can be used for accessing secure e-services and digitally signing documents, but has the advantage of not requiring a card reader.
The system is based on a specialized Mobile-ID SIM card which the customer must request from the mobile phone operator.
Private keys are stored on the mobile SIM card along with a small application for authentication and signing.
Information which might helpEdit
Here's how Mobile-ID would be used for logging into a secure site, for instance a bank account:
- The user clicks the "Log in with mobile ID" option on a supported website
- The phone beeps and displays a screen indicating that a connection is being made.
- The user is prompted to enter a mobile ID pin code into the phone.
- The screen on the phone disappears and the website is automatically reloaded with a logged in screen.
