Eritrea - Apply for a new passport
ProcedureEdit
- When an application for a passport is received
- Verification is made in the registries that exist in Asmara as to whether the individual has completed national military service.
- After verification passport will be ready in six weeks
Required DocumentsEdit
- A complete application form (Original form should be obtained by contacting the Consulate)
- Two passport size photographs (both ears clearly visible on white background )
- Copy of Eritrean ID (Both sides)
- Deposit slip clearly showing the amount deposited
- A self addressed prepaid registered envelope

Eritreans residing abroad who renew their passports at an embassy are required to pay "the passport fee, any 2% income tax in arrears (tax on income generated in the host country),as well as any other fee that was imposed by the ruling party (national defense fee, adopt-a-martyr fee, fight-the-sanction-fee, etc.)
Passports can be obtained through embassies and consulates with the payment of fees and taxes as well as the completion of a form for military deserters or objectors

Need for the DocumentEdit
Passports are issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a five-year period and can be renewed multiple times by the Ministry or by an embassy or consulate abroad. Citizens are not issued passports prior to completion of military service.
