ProcedureEdit
- To register the birth of a child, the parents or the informants will need to go to the local Civil Registry Office where the child was born or where the parents resides.
- Complete the registration form and submit it together with all other required documents.
If you are outside El Salvador
You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" section to get in touch with the nearest Embassy of El Salvador in the country you are currently staying. The Embassy's consular service desk will be able to help process your request to register the birth of your child in El Salvador.
Registro Nacional de las Personas Naturales (RNPN) also have offices abroad, so you may also apply in any of those offices, again the contact information is provided below.
Required DocumentsEdit
- Original and photocopy of the birth record issued by the hospital
- Original and copy of the Identity Document (DUI) of the newborn's parents or the next of kin that registering the birth.

FeesEdit
- Registration is free, if the birth is registered within the 90-day period.
- After the 90-day period and up to 7 years: birth will be registered after paying a fine of $ 2.85.

In some municipalities, you may request for a copy of the birth certificate 3 business days after you have registered the birth.

InstructionsEdit
It is the responsibility of the child's parents to inform the Registry Office where their child was born or where the parents reside regarding the birth of their child.
If the parents are not available, the next of kin of the newborn can register the birth with the Registry Office.
Registration must be made within ninety working days following birth.
The birth may still be registered after the 90-day period but informants will be asked to pay a fine.
If after 7 years and the birth is still unregistered, registration can only be done through a Notarial or Judicial action as the case may be.
