Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for a marriage certificate in Egypt, Register the marriage at the Egyptian Ministry of Justice.
2. Forms to be completed at the marriage court can only be obtained on the wedding day or the day before.
3. A routine physical exam performed by an Egyptian doctor is sometimes required if the person appears unhealthy.
4. It will take at least ten business days for a marriage certificate to be issued by the Ministry of Justice. The marriage certificate must be picked up by one of the parties.
5. You can get the document translated into English by the Egyptian Ministry of Justice Translation Office (the fee is 40.00LE). It takes 4-7 days to receive the translation. The translation into English language is NOT obligatory for any of the following procedures conducted by Slovenian authorities.
6. The Marriage certificate must be authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the fee is 11.00 LE per notarization) and then authenticated by the Embassy in Cairo (the fee is 14.00 EUR per notarization).
7. All documents should be presented to the Administrative Unit in the respective country. At this point the documents need to be translated into any preferred language by the court interpreter who is appointed by the Ministry of Justice. A declaration on your name after the marriage should also be made. If you will change your name you will have to request new documents (passport, ID…) with the new name.

Required Documents

• Original & valid Egyptian National ID or Passport.
• 5 personal photos each (white background).
• Original Egyptian Birth Certificates (or a certified copy), in case one of the couple is non-Egyptian, please legalize and translate your Birth Certificate from your respective Country’s Embassy/Consulate.
• 2 witnesses with original and valid Egyptian National ID or Passport.
• Original proof of termination of previous marriage if you were married before. No authentication or translation is required.
• Proof of identity (a passport) for both parties, a photocopy of the passport data page, the Egyptian entry visa and the residency stamp if you obtained one.
• Egyptian I.D. (Egyptian passport or the National ID) and a photocopy of it if one of the parties is Egyptian

Eligibility

• Marriage applicants have to be both Egyptians, or at least one of them.
• Male applicants must be 18 years or older, 16 or older for females.

Fees

• The fee is minimum 40 LE.
  

Validity

• The marriage certificate is valid until both the parties remains married or decides to get a divorce.

Need for the Document

• A marriage certificate is a document issued, either by a church or state authority, authorizing a couple to marry immediately after the celebration of a marriage by a minister, the officiating minister is required by law to complete, in duplicate, a marriage certificate.
