Egypt - Apply for Treaty Withholding Tax
Egypt has entered into double tax treaties with 54 countries.
Dividends paid to non-residents are not subject to withholding tax under Egyptian domestic law. Consequently, there various countries that Signed a treaty with Egypt for interest and royalties only.
Under the law, persons are deemed to be residents of the country where they have permanent homes. A person who resides in Egypt for a period exceeding 183 days during a calendar year is deemed to be resident in Egypt for tax purposes.
Egypt has signed double tax treaties with Armenia, Bangladesh, Greece, Ireland,Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Norway, Oman, Senegal, Seychelles, the Slovak Republic,Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda and Vietnam but these treaties have not yet been ratified. Tax treaty negotiations are underway with countries like Congo, Macedonia and North Korea.
All non residents who have signed tax treaties with Egypt are not subject to withholding tax, it is eligible for only those non treaty countries with Egypt.

All non Egyptian residents whose countries have no treaties with Egypt must register for withholding Tax on their Profits derived from Egypt, as well as be familiar with the rules relating to the filing of personal income tax and How it is calculated.

- Go to the Office of General Directorate of Taxes at the Egyptian Tax Authority.
- Bring the required documents.
- Present the documents.
- You will be asked to wait while as your documents are being processed.
- You will be called to the cashier to pay the application fee and necessary tax.
- Pick up your Treaty withholding tax certificate.

- A copy of certificate of incorporation.
- List of income from dividens.
- The Directors’ Tax Clearance Certificates (now Electronic Tax Clearance Certificate)
- Letter of application for registration,
