Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for License to Construct Power and Electricity Generating Station in person, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Electricity and Energy Contact link.
2. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
3. The applicant must fill up all the required application form for this procedure or for research clearance.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant form while submitting it at the office.
6. A fee for this procedure is has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
7. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
8. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the authority.
9. If the application is approved, the applicant shall receive the license within the stipulated processing period on their email address.
10. If there is no information regarding the application, then, the applicant can visit the office to know status of the application.
11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 30 days.

Required Documents

• Environmental Impact Statement (if applicable)
• Construction and commissioning programme (identifying the major milestones in the project development, from authorization to completion)
• Maps(s) or marine charts sufficient to identify the location of the generating station to which the application relates
• Statements of accounts for the last 2 years in respect of your relevant undertakings
• A certificate from applicant stating that no adverse change has occurred, if more than 3 months have passed since the end of the accounting year covered by the accounts submitted.
• If the company is a special purpose vehicle, a statement of the relevant parent company accounts and guarantees.
• An outline 5-year business plan in relation to application, including information on project finance
• Water extraction Licence (if applicable)
• Accepted Connection Offer from the Transmission System Operator or Distribution System Operator for the generating station.
• Power Purchase Agreement

Instructions

• Applicant must have authorization to construction power generating station, before Applicant applies for Construction generating station PERMIT.
• Applicant must apply to the ERC for an Authorization if Applicant wishes to construct or reconstruct a generating station. Each generating station construction or reconstruction project Applicant intends to develop will require a separate Authorization.
• If Applicant commence construction or reconstruction activities prior to obtaining Authorization from the ERC, Applicant may be liable on conviction on indictment to a fine or penalty.
