Information which might help

  • Those Egyptians that can afford the medical insurance scheme procedures opt to pay out of pocket payments for medical services.
  • They prefer to pay in order to avoid the elective process, risk , queuing and above all such *procedure are well within the reach of upper-class Egyptians and most expats
  • If you are an international traveler moving to Egypt from a European country countries like the United States or Canada, this kind of scheme may not suit you. But instead you can apply for international insurance scheme.
  • In the event of an emergency, you may be tempted to call an ambulance. Unfortunately, if you live in a rural area there will probably not be an ambulance available.
  • In an urban environment the ambulance may probably end up stuck in traffic especially if you decide to live in Cairo.
  • but you will find that cabs are much easier to come by than ambulances!
  • observation is not limited to foreigners – most Egyptians prefer to get to the hospital using cabs because they know how to maneuver in the traffic Jam.
  • Because of all this, you should take care to have a detailed medical check-up before leaving for Egypt.
  • In rural and urban areas patients using the government facilities can expect a lengthy journey and a long wait to see a physician.
  • Dissatisfaction with public hospitals and clinics has forced some low-income patients to attempt to seek treatment at expensive private clinics at even greater personal expense.
